Job description

The Upper School teacher at Cannon School, provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in their classroom utilizing the school's instructional program. The teacher works to create meaningful, engaging developmentally appropriate learning experiences in order to continue to build strong foundational skills for lifelong learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a load of four classes out of a six period day (teachers are expected to teach a load of four classes and two to three preps, though other situations may be contractually negotiated).

  • Perform various duties, such as proctor morning or afternoon make-up work sessions, lunch duty, etc.

  • Advise approximately 10 students throughout the year by serving as the point person to communicate with them and their families regarding academic and other issues.

  • Organize and/or attend class trips as chaperones.

  • Chaperone events and sports activities throughout the year.

  • Communicate with parents of students on a regular basis via letters, email, phone calls, and/or meetings.

  • Attend a reasonable number of student performances and events.

  • In addition, teachers are generally expected to perform one major extracurricular of 80-160 hours per year, particularly after their first year of employment.

  • Attend mandatory faculty meetings and other events.

  • Other duties, as assigned by the Head of Upper School.

BA required, Masters preferred, a minimum of 2 years teaching experience preferred
