Job description

Camp Mendocino is a residential summer camp located in Northern California, four hours north of San Francisco and spread over 2,000 acres. We provide transportation between San Francisco and Camp at the start and end of the summer. All Camp employees are expected to live, sleep and work at Camp. As a program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), we are dedicated to providing children and teens with safe, fun places to learn and grow, with professional staff to offer support and guidance, serving as caring mentors and role models.

You are a youth-centered role model with strong emotional intelligence, integrity, and a love for the outdoors. You collaborate well, bring creativity and patience, and are eager to learn, grow, and support a diverse community of campers and staff.
Position Purpose
The Camp Driver transports campers and staff as needed, which can vary in frequency. The Driver is responsible for safely transporting Camp staff and campers to a multitude of locations. The Driver may also be required to perform pickups of materials for the Directors team. While not driving the Driver operates as a part of the maintenance team, including responsibilities such as: repairs, trash pick ups, dishwashing, wood chopping, etc. This is a critical part of the position and all candidates should make sure they fully understand these responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Camp vehicles to transport staff and campers as needed to hospitals, pickups, or home
  • Provide transportation to staff on the first and last days of each Camp session
  • Complete required paperwork for all trips
  • Responsible for fueling vehicles and appropriate use of gas credit cards
  • Performing appropriate vehicle checks to ensure passenger safety
  • Adherence to all driving codes and regulations
  • General vehicle cleanliness and maintenance
  • Provide appropriate supervision of campers as needed
  • Respectful communication with campers, staff, parents, families, and guests
  • When not driving, provide support to all areas and departments at Camp including dishwashing, trash pick up and disposal, painting, carpentry, plumbing, chopping wood
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
Required Skills
  • Valid Class B driver's license
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to drive for 4+ hours without breaks
  • Ability to drive at night when needed
  • Comfortable driving a 12+ passenger van

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 30ยฐ to 100ยฐ

Schedule
  • Temporary/Seasonal Summer position.
  • Applicants should be available June 12 - August 6, 2026 to work & live on-site at our Camp location in Northern California (Mendocino County).
  • Staff members work 40-56 hours/week depending on position with two days off per week. Days off vary per session.

Lodging
Lodging is provided for all staff on site. Camp Drivers will not be required to stay in a cabin with youth on a regular basis, but will be assigned bunk-style indoor housing that may be shared with up to 8 other staff members.

Pay
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate for this temporary summer position from June 12 - August 6, 2026, is $4,195.00.
