Job description

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Under the supervision of the Camp Director and in cooperation with other staff, the Overnight Camp Medical Professional is responsible for developing program-specific health setting needs of campers and staff while at overnight camp. The Overnight Camp Medical Professional is responsible for collaborating with professional staff to meet the needs of campers and staff, follow health care protocols and procedures set up by the YMCA, DPH, and American Camp Association.
RESPONSIBLITIES (including, but not limited to):
  • Maintain insurance forms and camper health forms
  • Review camp medical records
  • Confirm all campers are compliant with needed immunizations
  • Manage individual health care plans for campers
  • Provide exceptional customer service to families and parents, communication with parents and counselors of camper's illness or injury
  • Ensure inventory of First-Aid kits is supplied and maintained
  • Provides First Aid for common injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, bee stings, dehydration, and sunburn
  • Keep a daily log of camper's infirmary visits
  • Accept and stores all prescription and over-the-counter drugs
  • Administer prescription and over-the-counter drugs
  • Serve as medical resource, bridging the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies
  • Maintain branch and association certifications in Metro Atlanta YMCA New Staff Orientation and Branch off-site Emergency procedures and any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA.
  • Responsible for maintaining and reporting incident/accident paperwork.
  • Adhere to Metro Atlanta YMCA policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid medical licensing as required by Georgia state law. (EMT, LPN, RN, PA, MD)
  • Required certifications current First Aid/CPR.
  • Complete PPE and safety protocol training prior to first shift.
  • Experience with children as well as adults.
  • A working knowledge of computers: MS Word, MS Excel, data base management
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening check
  • Pass a Motor Vehicles Record and have own transportation.

ERGONOMICS:
Ability to work actively while supervising children. Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat or kneel. Ability to lift and carry equipment to appropriate destinations or affect the carrying of such equipment. Ability to use senses which enable safe supervision including seeing and/or hearing.
