Job description

Job Title: CNC Machinist and Programmer

Job Description

This role involves performing complex set-up, programming, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines to produce precision components in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. You will work with advanced equipment, machine a variety of metals from CAD/CAM models, and help maintain high quality and safety standards while supporting continuous improvement on the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Control and adjust CNC machine settings to complete complex machining tasks in accordance with production requirements.
  • Perform machine set-up and changeover on CNC mills to produce required products or components, making mechanical adjustments to meet detailed product specifications.
  • Perform first-time set-up of equipment for new products, including programming, profiling, and making mechanical and software adjustments.
  • Operate CNC milling equipment, including Haas vertical milling centers and Mori Seiki machines, to achieve production output and quality goals.
  • Make minor adjustments during operation to correct machine output and maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Perform manual production operations as needed, such as applying labels, placing components, and loading and unloading equipment.
  • Visually inspect machine output to verify proper assembly, dimensional accuracy, and workmanship standards are met.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with blueprints and specifications.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities on CNC machines in accordance with machine operation manuals and maintenance work instructions.
  • Maintain neat, organized, and safe work areas and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Assist with training other machine operators by sharing knowledge of set-up, programming, and best practices as needed.
  • Work from blueprints and CAD/CAM models to plan machining operations and ensure accurate execution of part designs.
  • Deburr and finish machined parts as required to meet quality and customer requirements.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years of experience setting up CNC mill machines, or a minimum of 2+ years of CNC mill set-up experience combined with a vocational school certificate.
  • Hands-on experience machining parts directly from CAD/CAM models.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Experience operating CNC mills, including set-up and operation of Haas vertical milling centers and similar equipment.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controls for CNC machines.
  • Experience with Mastercam or similar CAD/CAM programming software.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform CNC mill set-up, operation, and basic programming in a production environment.
  • Capability to perform deburring and basic finishing operations on machined parts.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Additional years of experience setting up CNC mill machines beyond the minimum requirements.
  • Direct experience with Haas CNC vertical machining centers (VMCs).
  • Experience in machining for the aerospace industry.
  • Experience working in an ITAR-compliant manufacturing facility.
  • Experience working in an AS9100-certified facility.
  • Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and copper.
  • Experience with vertical milling, horizontal milling, and CNC mill programming.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and assist with training other operators.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility operating on a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with potential overtime depending on production needs. The shop is equipped with 3 horizontal Haas CNC machines and 4 vertical Haas CNC machines, as well as a Mori Seiki 1500 and other precision machining equipment. You will work with materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and copper, using modern CNC controls (including Fanuc) and CAD/CAM tools like Mastercam. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
