Job Description:
At Regions, the SBA Underwriting Team Manager works to analyze the most complex SBA credit requests, recommend underwriting structures, and make credit decisions. The associate will manage a team of underwriters, assisting with structuring recommendations and credit decisions. The SBA Underwriting Team Manager will drive team performance, ensuring that client expectations are met or exceeded and team goals are achieved.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Leads team of underwriters, reviewing analysis, structure and loan recommendations; manages daily workflow
  • Coaches and leads others on technical and relational aspects of the Underwriting role; provides individual performance evaluations
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of and ability to successfully apply all tools used to underwrite and risk rate both conventional and SBA-guaranteed commercial credits
  • Analyzes complex credit opportunities and exercises independent judgment in structuring, underwriting and risk rating credits, effectively balancing risk and relationship
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of credit policy and competency to interpret financial data, propose appropriate structures and present to stakeholders and clients
  • Works proactively and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders including underwriting team, credit officers and relationship managers
  • Demonstrates ownership of assigned portfolio and acts with urgency in meeting internal and external client needs
  • Maintain currency with SBA SOP requirements, procedures, and changes.
  • Develops/sustains relationships with Commercial Banking leadership

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act is not eligible for overtime pay.
This position is incentive eligible.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Seven (7) years of SBA or commercial loan underwriting, analysis or portfolio management experience.

Preferences
  • Advanced knowledge of SBA's SOP requirements and regulations. Ability and knowledge to work on the most complex loan files.
  • Three (3) years of prior management, leadership or coaching experience preferred

Skills and Competencies
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight time constraints

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
