What is a CLC?

A CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) is a professional trained to support breastfeeding parents by providing lactation education, troubleshooting common nursing challenges, and promoting healthy infant feeding practices. They work in hospitals, clinics, or private practice, offering guidance on latch techniques, milk supply, and breastfeeding positions. CLCs play a crucial role in ensuring both parent and baby receive proper support during the breastfeeding journey.

What does a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) do?

A typical day for a CLC often involves meeting with new parents to provide one-on-one lactation consultations, conducting breastfeeding assessments, and developing personalized care plans. CLCs may also facilitate group classes, answer follow-up questions by phone or email, and collaborate with nurses, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive support. Documentation and updating patient records are routine tasks, and some days may include participating in breastfeeding education initiatives or community outreach. The work environment can vary, with CLCs employed in hospitals, clinics, private practices, or providing home visits, making adaptability and a supportive attitude essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the CLC position?

To excel as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), you need a solid understanding of lactation principles, infant feeding techniques, and experience with maternal-child health, often demonstrated by completing a recognized CLC training program and certification exam. Familiarity with patient record systems, breastfeeding assessment tools, and maintaining certification through ongoing education is important. Compassion, strong communication, and problem-solving skills help CLCs effectively support diverse families and navigate sensitive situations. These capabilities empower CLCs to deliver evidence-based care and guidance, improving breastfeeding outcomes and maternal-infant health.

About CLC Landscaping LLC

We design, build, and care for high-quality outdoor spaces for high-end residential clients and professional commercial properties across Central Texas. Through water-efficient landscapes, Texas native designs, sustainable practices, and leading-edge technology, we help create outdoor spaces that not only look great, but flourish over time. We hold high standards, care deeply about client experience, and believe in building a team that grows together while doing things the right way.
Description
CLC Landscaping is looking for a Landscape Construction Apprentice who wants to learn the trade, work hard with a good team, and grow into higher-responsibility roles over time.
This is a hands-on field role for someone who enjoys building outdoor spaces, working outdoors, staying active, and learning how high-quality landscape construction is done. The right person may start as an apprentice, but our goal is to develop people who can grow into Skilled Apprentice, Jr. Crew Lead, Sr. Crew Lead, and Field Team Lead roles as they build skill, reliability, leadership, and production ownership.
Why this role matters

A great apprentice helps the crew move faster, keeps the jobsite clean and organized, protects tools and materials, follows direction well, and improves week by week.
Key responsibilities

  • Show up on time, ready to work, and prepared for the day
  • Work outdoors in Central Texas heat and changing weather conditions
  • Assist with digging, trenching, grading support, base prep, planting, cleanup, and load-out
  • Load, unload, move, and organize tools, equipment, and materials
  • Help prepare areas for sod, planting, hardscape, drainage, irrigation, and concrete-related work
  • Support retaining wall, masonry, paver, and stone work as trained
  • Keep jobsites & Equipment clean, organized, and safe throughout the day
  • Use PPE and follow safe work practices
  • Follow direction from crew leads and supervisors
  • Protect tools, equipment, trucks, trailers, and materials
  • Communicate issues, safety concerns, material needs, or jobsite problems quickly
  • Maintain a respectful, professional attitude with teammates, clients, and trade partners
What success looks like
  • You are reliable, on time, and ready to contribute every day!
  • You work safely and steadily without needing constant reminders
  • You keep a good attitude during hard physical work
  • You follow direction, ask good questions, and learn from feedback
  • You help the crew stay productive instead of slowing the day down
  • You care about doing the work the right way
  • You get better each week and take pride in your growth
  • You begin to set an example for newer team members as your skill grows
What we're looking for
  • Valid driver's license strongly preferred and important for advancement
  • Reliable transportation to our shop in San Marcos each workday
  • Landscape, construction, hardscape, masonry, irrigation, artifical turf installation or outdoor labor experience preferred.
  • Able to lift, carry, dig, haul materials, and stay active throughout the workday
  • Comfortable working outdoors in Central Texas heat
  • Willing to start in an apprentice role and learn CLC's standards
  • Coachable, dependable, team-oriented, and respectful
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to get your hands dirty
  • Masonry, stone work, patios, retaining walls, irrigation, or plant knowledge is a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Leadership mindset is a plus - we want people who can grow into crew lead roles over time
Growth opportunity This role is part of CLC's Landscape Construction career ladder:
  • Landscape Construction Apprentice $17.50-$19.25/hr
  • Landscape Construction Skilled Apprentice $19.25-$21.25/hr

  • Landscape Construction Sr. Crew Lead $24.00-$28.00/hr
  • Landscape Construction Field Team Lead $28.00-$32.00/hr

Team members who learn the work, show up consistently, protect quality, and positively influence the crew can grow into higher-paying leadership roles. Compensation Pay range: $17.50-$21.25/hour, depending on experience, skill, reliability, and leadership potential. Strong team members who build skill, take ownership, and grow into higher-responsibility roles have a clear path to increased pay over time. Benefits
  • Full-time position
  • Paid vacation and sick leave
  • Growth path into higher-responsibility field leadership roles
  • Opportunity to learn landscape construction, hardscape, masonry, planting, drainage, and irrigation support
  • Work with a people-first company that values quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement
