Lakewood Health System's Obstetrics department supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization by providing safe, compassionate care to mothers, infants, and families. Our team includes Registered Nurses, Lactation Specialists, Health Unit Coordinators, and Obstetric Technicians who work together to support individualized care plans and promote positive patient outcomes.

Mission for Position

The Certified Lactation Counselor/Consultant provides expert breastfeeding support, education, and advocacy to mothers, infants, and families while promoting evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Position Summary

The IBCLC/RNCLC collaborates with providers, nursing staff, Women's Health personnel, and OB Case Management to deliver lactation education and support across inpatient and outpatient settings. This part-time role also contributes to staff education and program development to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding throughout Lakewood Health System.

This position may be filled by either a Registered Nurse (RN) with IBCLC/CLC certification or a non-RN IBCLC/CLC candidate with relevant maternal-child health, breastfeeding support, and patient education experience. Scope of responsibilities will align with applicable licensure and certification.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a breastfeeding resource for hospital and clinic staff
  • Provide direct lactation consultation and breastfeeding support to patients
  • Assist in reviewing and developing breastfeeding-related policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with care teams to resolve inpatient breastfeeding concerns
  • Educate patients on breast pump usage and breastfeeding techniques
  • Develop and distribute breastfeeding education materials
  • Promote and maintain employee lactation support programs
  • Provide telephone support and follow-up care for breastfeeding patients
  • Participate in community outreach and education events
  • Maintain accurate documentation and statistical reporting for lactation services

Position Type

This is a part-time position with our lactation team. No weekends or holidays are required.

Compensation is determined based on licensure, certifications, education, and relevant clinical experience.

  • RN/IBCLC candidates: anticipated hiring range $42.96-$53.78/hour
  • Non-RN IBCLC candidates: anticipated hiring range $32.00-$42.00/hour
