Job description

Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Reporting to the Director, Business Transformation & Service Delivery, the Manager, Business Transformation leads the core delivery team responsible for analyzing, documenting, and optimizing the University's operational processes. The Manager ensures that transformation initiatives are grounded in rigorous data, clear business requirements, and lean process principles.

The Manager is responsible for the professional standards of the Business Analysis and Process Engineering functions, ensuring that every project delivers measurable improvements to efficiency and the user experience.

Academic Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Business, Project Management, or Management Information Systems).

Knowledge

  • 10+ years of experience with a focus on large-scale transformation programs or projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in senior leadership roles, particularly managing Business Analysts & Process Analysts.
  • Mastery of the BABOK (Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) and its application in a complex environment.
  • Deep knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies specifically applied to service environments (rather than manufacturing).

Skills

  • Expert proficiency in BPMN 2.0 and tools like Visio, Signavio, or Lucidchart.
  • Ability to perform Root Cause Analysis and use data to justify process changes.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff in complex modeling and negotiation techniques.
  • Highly skilled at managing difficult subject matter experts (SMEs) who may be protective of their current way of working.

  • A high degree of drive to move projects past the discovery phase into tangible, documented solutions.

In accordance with the Handbook of Employment for Management and Professional Staff (Excluded), this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary which will be commensurate with qualifications.

  • Team Leadership & Capability Building: Lead, mentor, and performance manage a team of Senior Business Analysts, Business Analysts, and Senior Process Analysts. Build a consultancy style culture that is proactive and solution-oriented.
  • Methodology Governance: Establish and maintain a standardized transformation toolkit (including BA templates, process mapping standards, and benefits realization frameworks) to ensure consistency across all projects.
  • End-to-End Process Optimization: Oversee the "As-Is" discovery and "To-Be" design phases.
  • Ensure the team uses Lean or Six Sigma principles to remove waste and "administrative friction" from university workflows and processes.
  • Requirement Lifecycle Management: Ensure that business requirements are high-quality, traceable, and effectively communicated to technical teams and vendors to prevent scope creep.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage the deployment of Business Analysts and Process Analysts across multiple concurrent projects, balancing workload and matching skill sets to project complexity.
  • Quality Assurance: Act as the final technical reviewer for process maps, business cases, and functional specifications before they are presented to project teams, steering committees or stakeholders.
