Job description

Axon Enterprise is growing fast, and we're looking for a trailblazing Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Architect to help us scale. As a Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Architect, you'll be at the center of designing and implementing solutions that support Axon's financial operations and rapid growth. You will help shape the future of Finance systems by leveraging modern ERP capabilities, automation, analytics, and AI-driven solutions to improve efficiency, decision-making, and scalability across the organization. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, sustainable systems that align with our financial and business goals. In our fast-paced environment, embracing complexity and tackling challenges will be key to driving strategic initiatives, optimizing processes, and delivering cutting-edge financial systems. 

The ideal candidate for this hands-on role will have extensive experience and a deep understanding of accounting principles, financial processes, and D365 FO, with a proven ability to design and implement complex business solutions. 

What You'll Do 

Location:Axon Hub locations, preferably Scottsdale (4 days per week Tuesday-Friday)

Reports to: Sr. Director, Business Systems ERP 

  • Solution Architecture: Lead the design, development, and implementation of innovative financial solutions within the Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 FO) platform. Conduct fit/gap analyses to identify areas for customization and develop detailed design specifications when necessary. Strive to implement standard processes while minimizing customization. Your expertise will also be essential in designing integrations with other financial systems for functions such as revenue recognition, tax compliance, financial consolidations, and reporting, ensuring alignment with Axon's business goals and best practices. 
  • Business Process Optimization: Partner with finance stakeholders to assess, refine, and automate key financial processes in areas such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Fixed Assets, and Project Accounting. Balance the need for automated solutions with the practicality of manual processes, recommending the best approach based on business needs. Ensure that these processes are optimized for both efficiency and scalability, while aligning with Axon's operational goals. Use your expertise to determine when customized solutions are needed and when standard processes can be leveraged. Identify opportunities to embed AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation capabilities within Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and adjacent technologies to reduce manual effort, improve controls, accelerate financial operations, and enhance user productivity. 
  • Project Delivery: Oversee the full lifecycle of finance-related projects within D365 FO, from gathering requirements and designing solutions to deployment and post-implementation support. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet business expectations. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with solution architects, business analysts, finance teams, developers, and other cross-functional partners to design and deliver effective financial solutions. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to Axon's finance leadership team. Provide insights into system capabilities, recommend enhancements, and keep stakeholders informed on emerging trends in ERP, automation, data platforms, and AI technologies. Evaluate emerging Microsoft Copilot and AI capabilities and advise leadership on their applicability to Axon's Finance roadmap. Ensure that finance needs align with the capabilities of D365 FO. 
  • Audit & Reporting: Collaborate with the internal audit and finance teams to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting within the system. You will help build and enhance financial reports, dashboards, and data management processes, ensuring that Axon's decision-makers have access to reliable, actionable data. Partner with data and analytics teams to enable modern reporting, predictive insights, and AI-assisted decision support while maintaining strong governance, security, and financial data integrity. 
  • Training & Mentorship: Provide training and documentation to finance teams and end-users to maximize the efficient use of D365 FO. Mentor and guide the functional analysis team, helping them navigate complex scenarios and build their expertise. 
  • Leadership: Serve as the point of contact for all D365 FO finance-related matters. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on project progress and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Lead financial activities related to mergers and acquisitions. Strong communication and managing stakeholder expectations will be essential for keeping teams aligned and maintaining project momentum. 
  • Finance Innovation & AI Strategy: Partner with Finance, IT, and Enterprise Architecture leaders to identify, prioritize, and deliver AI-enabled capabilities that improve financial operations, reporting, compliance, forecasting, and decision-making. Establish best practices for responsible AI adoption within Finance systems and processes. 
  • Continued Education: Stay informed of the latest D365 Finance, Power Platform, Copilot, AI, and Microsoft cloud capabilities. Evaluate emerging technologies and develop recommendations for how they can improve financial processes, reporting, controls, and user experience at Axon. Stay current on accounting rules and regulations. 

What You Bring 

  • D365 FO Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, with a strong track record of designing and implementing finance-related systems. You should be confident in leading solution design and implementing efficient financial processes within D365 FO. 
  • Finance & Accounting Knowledge: Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial processes, and related Dynamics 365 Finance modules, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, and Fixed Assets. Experience creating and implementing legal entities, establishing intercompany trade, managing financial consolidations, currency revaluation, and defining financial dimensions and account structure configuration. Familiarity with GAAP, IFRS, and revenue recognition. 
  • Advanced Reporting: Experience designing and implementing electronic reporting solutions that support advanced reporting structures and building reports in Financial Reporter. 
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex projects, from gathering requirements to execution. Skilled in prioritizing tasks, managing timelines, and ensuring successful project delivery in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and/or Scaled Agile methodologies and tools like Azure DevOps, Jira and SharePoint is a plus. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to solve complex business challenges. You should have a talent for identifying inefficiencies in operational processes and designing solutions that streamline workflows and enhance outcomes. 
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, allowing you to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical teams. You should be comfortable working with senior finance leadership, as well as stakeholders, developers, and analysts to ensure clear understanding of requirements and deliverables. 
  • System Integration Experience: Familiarity with integrating D365 FO with other enterprise applications, ERP systems, and legacy platforms. You should understand how to create seamless, integrated workflows that support multiple business areas. 
  • AI & Intelligent Automation Experience: Experience evaluating or implementing AI-enabled business solutions, Microsoft Copilot capabilities, intelligent workflow automation, predictive analytics, or process optimization technologies. Ability to identify practical applications of AI within finance operations while ensuring appropriate governance, compliance, and data quality. 
  • Certifications & Technical Expertise: D365 certifications in Finance or other relevant modules are preferred, along with a solid understanding of Microsoft's broader technology stack, including Power Platform, Azure services, Microsoft Fabric, Copilot capabilities, and modern data and AI technologies.
