Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and strategically minded professional to join our Business and Finance team as a Business Support Specialist (BSS). In this dynamic role, you will work independently while serving as a trusted partner to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), supporting a wide range of business operations and initiatives that are essential to the success of the university.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys variety in their work. The BSS will play a key role in coordinating projects, supporting financial and operational functions, and ensuring seamless collaboration across departments including facilities, dining services, and campus store operations. You will also serve as the primary administrative liaison for the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees and represent the CFO and DMU in communications with both internal leadership and external partners.

Success in this role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to anticipate needs, solve complex challenges, and operate with a high degree of independence. The ideal candidate brings a strategic mindset, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to advancing DMU's mission through operational excellence and continuous support of key business initiatives.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and coordinate a wide range of projects and operational initiatives for the CFO, including facilities, dining services, campus store, and campus-wide programs, ensuring alignment with university policies and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a central liaison across campus and with external vendors, managing relationships, communications, and day-to-day operations to deliver high-quality, efficient services.
  • Oversee key operational areas such as dining services and campus store performance, financial tracking (including subsidy management), service quality, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage campus resources and programs including space/occupancy tracking, furniture procurement and planning, signage, WELL certification, and multi-year operational plans.
  • Provide high-level administrative and governance support, including managing Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees activities, preparing reports and materials, and facilitating executive-level communications.
  • Support Business and Finance operations through budgeting, records management, policy and website oversight, audit support, and backup responsibility for contracts and insurance administration.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field required.
  • Three (3) years of administrative experience in a professional environment required.
  • Three (3) years of experience as an executive administrator or experience in a financial/accounting environment a plus.
  • Project management and design skills a plus.
  • General financial/accounting experience a plus.
  • Project leadership and/or project management certificate a plus.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
