Temporary Sr. Business Solutions Analyst

We are seeking a highly skilled Temporary Sr. Business Solutions Analyst with strong data analysis, data governance, and Agile delivery experience to act as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise with SQL, Microsoft Purview (data mapping and unified catalog), and Power BI, along with proven experience working in an Agile environment. This role involves gathering and translating business requirements into technical specifications, defining business rules, mapping data from source to target systems, validating KPIs, and ensuring alignment between business objectives and data-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Analysis & Agile Delivery

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and document business requirements.
  • Translate business needs into technical user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria within Agile frameworks (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Maintain and refine the product backlog in collaboration with product owners and delivery teams.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Ensure requirements are clearly communicated to and understood by development and data engineering teams.

Data Analysis & Validation

  • Use SQL to query, extract, and analyze data from multiple systems to validate requirements and ensure data integrity.
  • Perform data profiling and data quality assessments to identify inconsistencies or anomalies.
  • Define and document business rules, data transformations, and KPI calculations to support reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Validate Power BI dashboards and ensure alignment between source data and business-defined KPIs.

Data Mapping & Governance (Microsoft Purview)

  • Create and maintain data mapping documentation within Microsoft Purview, linking source systems to target destinations (e.g., Power BI datasets, data warehouses).
  • Manage and update the Unified Data Catalog in Purview to ensure data assets are discoverable, properly classified, and well-documented.
  • Support data lineage tracking and metadata management to ensure transparency across the data lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with data governance and compliance teams to uphold data quality and stewardship standards.

Technical Coordination & Documentation

  • Work with data engineers, BI developers, and data architects to translate functional requirements into technical specifications.
  • Support UAT (User Acceptance Testing) by preparing test cases, validating results, and obtaining stakeholder approval.
  • Ensure traceability between user stories, data mappings, and delivered solutions.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, use cases, and system interface documentation as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years as a Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or Business Systems Analyst in a data-focused environment.
    • Proven experience working within an Agile delivery framework
    • Strong hands-on experience writing user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria in tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
    • Advanced proficiency in SQL for querying, data validation, and complex data analysis.
    • Experience with Microsoft Purview (data mapping, unified catalog, lineage tracking).
    • Familiarity with Power BI data models, datasets, and KPI validation.
    • Experience collaborating with data engineers, ETL developers, and data governance teams.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced SQL (joins, aggregations, window functions, data validation).
  • Expertise in Microsoft Purview – data mapping, lineage, and unified catalog management.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, including DAX logic, datasets, and visualization validation.
  • Understanding of data governance principles, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in an Agile environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Skilled at documentation, requirement traceability, and stakeholder alignment.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

  • Familiarity with Azure data ecosystem (Microsoft Fabric, Fabric Data Factory)
  • Understanding of data privacy and compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience with data quality or data lineage tools in Purview.
  • Exposure to Python or other scripting languages for data validation.

Compensation Salary $97,392 - $182,594 / year

The compensation salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
