Business Operations professionals focus on managing and improving overall business processes and daily functions, ensuring efficiency across departments. Business Analysts analyze business needs, gather requirements, and propose solutions to improve systems and workflows. While both roles require strong communication and analytical skills, Business Operations roles are more operational and process-oriented, whereas Business Analysts are more focused on project-specific analysis and solution design.

Business Operations Analyst
Execution, follow-through, and automation for Sizzling Platter's analytics function.
Reports To: Gilberto Valdez, Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer
Department: Finance / Strategic Analytics
Type: Full-time, Onsite
Location: Sizzling Platter Support Center, Murray, UT
FLSA Status: Exempt / Non-Exempt - HR to confirm
About the Role
Sizzling Platter is one of the largest multi-brand restaurant franchisees in the country, operating Wingstop, Little Caesars, Jersey Mike's, Jamba, Dunkin', Red Robin, Sizzler, and Cinnabon locations. Our Strategic Analytics function builds the pricing models, site-cannibalization forecasts, cost analyses, and automated data pipelines that leadership uses to make capital and operating decisions.
We're looking for someone to take ownership of the follow-through on analysis that's already been built, and to grow into finding and building the automations that remove that follow-through work over time. Day to day you'll move between a spreadsheet of audit findings, a command line pulling and checking data, a stakeholder conversation, and, increasingly, a tool like Claude Code, Copilot, or Power Automate where you're scoping and standing up a small workflow yourself.
This is not an engineering role in the traditional sense. If you have a coding background, great, but we're not filtering for it. What we can't compromise on is curiosity: you need to want to know why a number looks wrong before you're told to check it, and you need to be comfortable being handed a terminal, an error message, or an unfamiliar tool, and just working it out. We can teach the syntax and the tools. We can't teach the instinct to poke at something until it makes sense.
What You'll Actually Do
1. CAM audit follow-through. Take the facilities CAM (Common Area Maintenance) audit results and work them one by one: verify the finding against source documentation, identify the right stakeholder (landlord, property manager, internal facilities or finance contact), reach out, track the response, and drive each item to a documented resolution.
2. Pricing data QA. We pull competitor and internal menu pricing across several brands on a recurring basis. You'll spot-check pulls against source, flag anomalies, and get comfortable enough with the scripts to re-run or troubleshoot a failed pull yourself.
3. Automation scoping. Sit down with stakeholders across the business, interview them about how they actually do a repetitive task, and come back with a clear-eyed writeup of what's worth automating and what isn't. This is as much a people skill as a technical one: you have to ask the right follow-up question to find where the real time is being lost.
4. Automation build-out. Turn the highest-value ones into something real: an agent in Copilot Studio, a Power Automate flow, or a Claude Code-driven script. You won't be expected to architect complex systems solo, but you should be comfortable being the one who tries first, breaks it, and iterates, with us coaching you through the harder parts.
5. Heavy day-to-day use of Claude Code. This will be your default tool for a lot of the above: pulling data, checking pricing pipelines, drafting first passes at automations. You should be, or quickly become, the kind of person who'd rather try a prompt and read the error than wait to be shown exactly what to type.
6. Status tracking. Keep a clear, current record of what's open, resolved, or stuck across audits, pricing QA, and automation projects, so nothing sits untouched because no one remembered it existed.
Who You Are
- Comfortable opening a terminal and running a script someone else wrote, and not rattled when it throws an error. You read the error, you try something, you ask a sharp question if you're still stuck.
- Deeply curious about tools, AI, and automation platforms. You'll poke at Copilot, Power Automate, or Claude Code to understand them rather than waiting to be shown.
- Comfortable running a short interview with a stakeholder: asking follow-ups, pushing past "it's fine" to find where the actual friction is.
- Self-sufficient by default. You take a task, figure out the first three steps yourself, and come back with a specific question rather than "what do I do."
- Organized enough to run several open threads (audit items, pricing checks, automation projects) without dropping any of them.
- Persistent about follow-up. A meaningful share of this role is asking people outside Finance for things they owe you, and continuing to ask until you get them.
No degree required, and no coding background required. A relevant degree is welcome, but it is not what we're evaluating and its absence will not count against you. What we're looking for is curiosity and real-world experience: things you have actually done, problems you have actually solved, processes you have actually fixed. If you've taught yourself something technical out of curiosity, even something unrelated to this job, that carries more weight with us than a transcript.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Any hands-on exposure to Copilot Studio, Power Automate, or similar low-code automation tools.
- Any exposure to SQL, Excel/Python, or a command-line tool.
- Experience in facilities, real estate, or retail operations.
- Familiarity with restaurant or retail pricing and P&L structures.
- Exposure to lease administration, CAM reconciliation, or vendor management.
- Any evidence of building something on your own initiative: a script, a scraper, a dashboard, a spreadsheet model, a side project.
What We'll Teach You
How to read and lightly modify the scripts and dashboards you'll be working with, how to use Claude Code as a daily tool rather than a novelty, how to scope an automation idea into something buildable, and how to stand it up in Copilot Studio or Power Automate. You won't be expected to know any of this on day one. You'll be expected to want to learn it.
What We're Actually Screening For
We're transparent about this because it saves everyone time. We can teach you to code. We cannot teach you to be curious, and we cannot teach you to finish things. We are not screening on schools, degrees, or GPA. If you read documentation for fun, get annoyed when a process is manual, and don't need to be asked twice, you'll do well here regardless of what's on your resume.
If you need a defined process handed to you before you can start, this is not the right role.
Growth Path
This is an apprenticeship-style role. You'll sit close to the work and be taught directly. The expectation is that within 12 to 18 months you're building analyses and automations rather than only executing them, and running your own workstreams end to end.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Standard office environment at the Sizzling Platter Support Center. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional travel to restaurant locations may be required.
Equal Opportunity
Sizzling Platter is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
