Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Human Resources & Business Operations Leader to help bring structure, stability, and accountability to a financially strong, family-owned manufacturing and distribution company headquartered in the Greater Rockford Il area.

This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves role in a large family-owned business, and we need someone who can help bring structure without bringing unnecessary bureaucracy.

This is an opportunity for an experienced leader who enjoys being close to the people and the business. This is not a corporate HR environment, and we need someone who is can wear the HR hat while also helping lead the day-to-day administrative and business operations of the company.

What You'll Do

  • Take a hands-on leadership role in the company's administrative and business operations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to functions including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Purchasing, Order Processing, and other administrative activities.
  • Handle employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, benefits, payroll coordination, compliance, and performance management (with support of an outside PEO).
  • Help resolve interpersonal conflicts and challenging personalities with empathy, diplomacy, and accountability.
  • Establish and document processes and procedures that bring consistency and accountability to the organization.
  • Create better systems for cross-training employees and ensuring critical responsibilities have backup coverage.
  • Identify bottlenecks and help employees who are feeling overwhelmed get back on track.
  • Build a stronger culture of communication, teamwork, and accountability.

This role has the potential to expand into broader business initiatives, including ERP selection and implementation, inventory processes, automation, organizational development, and identifying future staffing needs.

What We Need

The ideal candidate is:

  • An experienced leader with a solid understanding of HR and compliance, but also broader business or operations experience.
  • Hands-on, practical, and willing to roll up their sleeves.
  • Multi-site experience preferred.
  • Empathetic but firm, with the ability to hold people accountable without creating unnecessary conflict.
  • A strong communicator who can build relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Experienced in developing processes, procedures, and organizational structure, both in administrative settings and manufacturing and distribution environments.
  • Comfortable working across HR, administration, finance, purchasing, and general business operations.
  • Comfortable working in a family-owned, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Able to balance the people side of HR with the practical needs of running a business.
  • A natural leader who can bring people together and create a more collaborative working environment.

If you enjoy establishing process and procedure, identifying areas for improvement, and love to be “boots on the ground” and hands-on involved in all areas of a manufacturing and distribution business this may be right in your wheelhouse. This is a great opportunity for someone who is a natural leader who can bring people together and create a more collaborative and efficient working environment.
