The McNulty Leadership Program (MLP) at the Wharton School develops transformative leaders through undergraduate, MBA, executive, and interdisciplinary programming that integrates leadership development, experiential learning, and real-world engagement across Penn and beyond.
The Business Manager serves as the primary financial operations and administrative lead supporting the McNulty Leadership Program. This position oversees a diverse portfolio of financial and administrative operations supporting multiple leadership programs. This role partners closely with program leadership, Wharton Finance & Administration, and Human Resources to ensure accurate financial processing, operational effectiveness, compliance with University policies, and continuous improvement of business processes and resource management. Success in this role requires exceptional organizational and communication skills, sound judgment, initiative, and strong attention to detail. The successful candidate will be proactive and resourceful, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, solve complex operational challenges, and identify opportunities to improve processes and service delivery. This position reports to the Senior Director, Organizational Effectiveness and plays a critical part in ensuring the operational excellence behind innovative leadership programs that serve students, faculty, and external partners.

Job Description

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations, business administration, accounting, or similar administrative functions, including responsibility for applying financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex administrative or financial operations requiring collaboration, coordination, and relationship management across multiple stakeholders while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, improve processes, and implement effective operational solutions.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience supervising, coaching, or providing functional leadership to staff or colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity working in higher education and/or with University policies, procedures, and financial systems.

  • Experience managing procurement, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll administration, or other financial and administrative operations.

  • Experience with Workday or a comparable enterprise human resources and financial management system.

  • Experience leading operational process improvement initiatives, developing business procedures, or implementing workflow improvements.
