Job overview

Dentons US LLP is recruiting for a Business Development Manager to support the Corporate practice group and drive its business development and marketing efforts. This role works closely with corporate practice leaders and lawyers to identify, formulate and implement business development and marketing strategies that strengthen client relationships, support new business opportunities and enhance the profile of the practice across regions where the firm has a presence.

This is a handson role that sits within the Corporate business development team. The Business Development Manager will work in close partnership with the Senior Manager, Business Development (Corporate) to execute on practice group priorities, lead client pitch opportunities and support practicelevel strategy. The successful candidate will manage daytoday practice group marketing and business development activities while also collaborating with BD professionals supporting other practice and industry groups to ensure coordinated efforts across the firm's global platform.

This is a hybrid position and may be based in any Dentons US LLP office.


Key responsibilities

Proposal development and management

Practice and partner support

  • Support the Senior Manager and Corporate practice leaders in assessing business development needs, implementing strategic priorities and developing a working knowledge of the group's services, market position and crossselling opportunities
  • Partner with the Senior Manager, lawyers and Client Relationship Leaders to develop strategic business development plans for select clients, including target identification, pursuit strategy and followthrough
  • Track and evaluate business development plans and efforts on an ongoing basis, prepare annual "Year in Review" reports and conduct data analysis to measure ROI and identify growth opportunities
  • Attend practice group meetings and proactively identify opportunities for collaboration and crossselling

Pitches, proposals and credentials

  • Lead and support pitches, proposals and responses to Requests for Proposals for corporate transactions and advisory matters
  • Draft and coordinate compelling content for proposals, presentations and related materials in alignment with firm branding
  • Collect, maintain and leverage deal and transaction information for use in pitches, credentials, biographies and marketing materials

Business development strategy and research

  • Conduct market, industry and competitive intelligence research to identify growth opportunities and develop a solid understanding of the group's revenue priorities, key clients and prospects
  • Monitor client, sector and geographic trends and prepare insightdriven research and briefing materials for partners
  • Create customized client briefing dossiers to support partner meetings and outreach

Thought leadership, events and visibility

  • Support the development and promotion of corporate thought leadership initiatives
  • Lead the production of client alerts, case studies and practice-related materials that position the group as a market leader
  • Assist with planning and execution of seminars, webinars, sponsorships and client events
  • Collaborate with communications and public relations colleagues to support media and profileraising opportunities

Rankings, directories and profileraising

  • Draft and manage Chambers USA, IFLR1000 and other legal directory and awards submissions
  • Work with lawyers to identify and articulate key deals, transactions and credentials

Lateral integration and internal collaboration

  • Support onboarding and integration of lateral partners including business development planning, biographies and announcements
  • Collaborate with recruiting, marketing, communications and other internal teams to ensure coordinated support

Tools, technology and reporting

  • Use CRM and marketing technology tools to support client targeting, tracking and information sharing
  • Track business development activity and contribute to reporting and analysis that demonstrate impact
  • Track and disseminate key practice group activities, proposals and new business wins to support internal visibility and momentum

Qualifications and experience

  • 7 plus years of business development or marketing experience in a professional services environment; law firm experience required
  • Experience supporting corporate or transactional practices or complex subject matter teams
  • Demonstrated experience supporting pitches, proposals and client development initiatives
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex legal and commercial concepts into clear, clientfocused messaging
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to build trust with partners and senior stakeholders and work effectively as part of a layered business development team
  • Strategic, proactive and serviceoriented with strong commercial acumen, problemsolving skills and an awareness of business and legal trends affecting firm clients
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as CRM tools
  • Familiarity with marketing technology and emerging tools including AIenabled platforms is a plus
  • A natural internal networker who uncovers opportunities through engaging informally with partners, colleagues and clients
  • Clientfacing experience strongly preferred; crossborder experience desirable

Salary 

Pursuant with states' laws, the salary range for this position is $140,000 - $180,000, based on experience and local market.
