Job description

Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management

Michigan Technological University seeks an Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management to deliver energetic, strategic, and collaborative leadership for undergraduate recruitment, admissions, university financial aid and scholarships, TRIO Pre‑College Programs, and the Center for Educational Outreach. The AVPEM reports to the Vice President for University Relations and Enrollment and serves as a key strategic advisor on divisional priorities, operational effectiveness, enrollment strategy, and organizational planning.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  1. Provide leadership and strategic analysis in the development, oversight, and integration of all aspects of enrollment management including student recruitment goals.
  2. Create strategies and division‑wide initiatives that support the recruitment and retention of a diverse and inclusive student body in alignment with the University’s culture and core values.
  3. Lead the development of strategies that leverage financial‑aid awards to enhance the overall student body and expand opportunities for timely degree attainment.
  4. Collaborate with deans and other academic leaders to produce short‑ and long‑term enrollment goals and effective recruitment strategies.
  5. Develop strategies to engage faculty and other university personnel in the execution of enrollment initiatives and opportunities in targeted programs.
  6. Provide comprehensive statistical and data‑informed analyses necessary to make sound policy decisions supporting new enrollment markets while sustaining and growing existing markets.
  7. Collaborate with the associate vice president of University Marketing and Communications to establish and implement marketing objectives and plans.
  8. Analyze relevant data and market trends to inform planning, decision‑making, reporting, and management, keeping each school and college informed of trends and shifts in demographic areas.
  9. Work with outreach and business development assets on campus to best meet the enrollment goals of the university.
  10. Serve as an expert in changing regulations, evolving trends, and best practices in admissions and higher education to proactively implement necessary changes to achieve enrollment goals.
  11. Evaluate and improve the practices of the student‑enrollment experience, including timely, effective and positive engagement with students and families throughout the entirety of their experiences with admissions, financial aid, and registration.
  12. Develop and use existing and emerging technologies to communicate and build relationships with students, families, community colleges and secondary school leadership.
  13. Proactively build and support a comprehensive set of programs for recruitment and admission initiatives with community colleges, early college credit and military transfer programs to ensure student access to and success at the university.
  14. Optimize use of available federal, state, and institutional resources in the recruitment and retention of students while ensuring campus compliance with all federal and state agency regulations and policies.
  15. Provide leadership and management best practices to develop a strong sense of teamwork, equity, and investment among the AVEM team.
  16. Establish an environment of encouragement, mentoring, and support of a diverse set of ideas.
  17. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work; actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.
  18. Apply safety‑related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

Master’s degree or a combination of a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.

Required Experience
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible and demonstrated success in higher education enrollment management, including marketing, with at least five years as a supervisor of professional staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across university divisions to advance a unified recruitment strategy.
  • Prior work with the strategic planning process, including development and execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including expertise in presenting publicly and speaking on behalf of the university.
  • Ability to identify data needed to drive decision‑making and analyze and present enrollment metrics.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement practices among employees.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
