Job description

Groupon connects 42 million customers with local experiences - restaurants, events, wellness and travel - and the million-plus merchants who deliver them. Our mission is to get people offline and into the real world at prices that make it possible. We're an AI-native company in the middle of a platform transformation, moving from a deals marketplace to an experience discovery platform that works for customers and merchants at the same time.

Business Development Manager — Groupon

Chicago (Hybrid) · Full-cycle sales · Uncapped commission

Close deals. Build local. Get paid for it.

As a Business Development Manager, you'll find local businesses that need customers and put them in front of millions of Groupon shoppers. You own the whole thing: the prospecting, the pitch, the negotiation, the close. No pod. No hand-offs. Your book, your numbers, your win.

This is a hunter's role. If you love the chase, thrive on a "yes," and want a comp plan that pays you for how hard you swing — keep reading.

What the job actually looks like

You'll spend your days on the phone and in the field, cold-calling and prospecting local merchants across Beauty & Wellness, Food & Drink, Things To Do, and Home & Auto. You'll learn a business owner's world fast — what's working, what's keeping them up at night — and build a campaign that gets them real customers. Then you'll negotiate the margins, structure the deal, close it, and hand off a merchant who's set up to win.

Concretely, you will:

  • Own the full sales cycle — first dial to signed contract
  • Hunt new business through cold outreach, your own research, and your lead pipeline
  • Sell consultatively across every vertical, tailoring the pitch to each owner's goals
  • Negotiate deal structure, margins, and discounts that work for the merchant and Groupon
  • Hit — and beat — your monthly and quarterly targets
  • Keep your pipeline clean and accurate in Salesforce
  • Use AI-powered sales tools to sharpen your outreach and follow-up
  • Partner with Merchant teams post-close so every account starts strong
What tells us you'll crush it
  • 3+ years of full-cycle or business development sales, with a quota you've consistently hit or beaten
  • Experience selling to local or small-business owners (strongly preferred — you get how they think)
  • Real chops in consultative selling, prospecting, and negotiation
  • Coachable and confident — you want to get better and you own your results
  • Energized, not rattled, by a competitive, metrics-driven floor
  • Genuinely curious about people and local business, and quick to earn trust

If you've carried a bag, loved it, and want a bigger one — this is your move.

The comp (no vague promises)
  • Base: $60,000–$70,000
  • On-target earnings: $90,000+ — with uncapped commission and bonus, so top performers earn well beyond
  • You get paid on the gross profit you deliver. The better you sell, the higher the ceiling — and there isn't one.
What else you get
  • Hybrid out of our Chicago office
  • Benefits from day one of the month after you start: medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSAs, EAP, 401(k) match, and ESPP
  • Real development: structured onboarding, ongoing coaching, and a team that's genuinely invested in you leveling up — the consultative-selling skills you build here compound for the rest of your career
Why now?

Groupon is in the middle of a real transformation, and Sales is driving it. This isn't a seat where you dial and hope. It's a role where your energy, your instincts, and your voice turn into actual wins for real local businesses — jobs saved, doors kept open, neighborhoods kept humming.

If you're ready to bet on yourself, we want to meet you.
