Job description

Role Summary

The Business Development Manager focuses on identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and building WTW's brand presence within Florida with a focus on the construction industry. The role is dedicated to opening doors, getting to know local executives, generating qualified meetings, and expanding WTW's footprint in high-growth markets. The ideal candidate is a proactive, autonomous, and results-driven professional energized by being in the market. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced team environment, motivated by upside, and is looking to grow into a broader marquee client management role in the future.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead Generation and Prospecting: Identify, engage, and qualify new business targets within WTW's defined construction & surety sub-verticals.
  • Meeting Generation: Set qualified first meetings and complete discovery calls with key decision-makers (Owners, CEOs, CFOs, Risk Managers, Project Managers), engage in the close cycle alongside producer and then hand off cleanly to main client teams.
  • Brand-Building and Networking: Establish a visible, trusted presence for WTW in the assigned market through active participation in industry associations (NAHB, ABC, AGC, CFMA, surety associations, developer councils), trade events, and local networking groups. Build referral relationships with lenders, surety partners, attorneys, and CPAs serving the construction industry.
  • Coordinated Execution: Work under guidance of Production team and closely with WTW's construction and surety expert team, as well as a team-dedicated sales analyst to ensure every market touchpoint is informed, intentional, and consistent. Translate their intelligence and target prioritization into meaningful market activity.
  • Pipeline Discipline: Maintain an active and accurate pipeline in the CRM, with clear handoff documentation for each qualified opportunity.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, or a related field - or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: Business development or outbound sales experience required. Existing relationships in Florida construction (GCs, developers, associations, surety, lenders) are a strong plus; construction insurance background is helpful but not required.
  • Licensing: Property & Casualty (P&C) license required or obtained within 30 days.
  • Skills:
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized
    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Ability to build trust and credibility quickly with senior-level stakeholders
    • Coachable and collaborative - able to translate input from technical experts and analysts into effective market action
  • Attributes: Self-motivated, competitive, resilient, and visibly energized by being in the market. Comfortable being measured on activity and qualified opportunities generated rather than closed business.
