we are looking for you as a(n) Business Development Manager.

We are seeking a senior experienced Business Development Manager with a strong professional biotech/biopharma network to join our growing team and support the growth in the advanced therapies space. This position will be responsible for working together with the Business Development team in North America with a focus on plasmid DNA, mRNA, recombinant proteins, and related manufacturing services. This senior position will greatly increase our prospective activities and contribute to sales and marketing activities to meet Wacker Biotech’s revenue and growth targets. The successful candidate will help sharpen and further refine the marketing strategy and engage the biotechnology industry to identify new leads. This role will be located in the West Coast USA.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Build and expand new client network and business development opportunities via and represent Wacker at customer visits and calls, presentations, road shows, trade shows to develop business and strengthen business relationships
  • Plan and perform the sale, developing proposals (project plans with milestones and pricing) for customers and negotiates contracts in close cooperation to Wacker Biotech and legal/IP.-Analyses market, competition, technologies (including Champion role for technology field or specific industry segment). Helps to develop action plan for market development.
  • Manage all business aspects of the customer relationship
  • Delivers exemplary customer services
  • Works closes with the BU and BD leadership, Technical experts, PM and SME teams to develop right strategies and tactics to meet the sales targets for the region
  • Stays current on competitors and competitive strategies and provide input needed for the development of future services offerings.
  • Maintains accurate records of customer visits and negotiation progress, provides management with timely reporting as requested and required.
  • Develops and updates technological and industry knowledge, exchanges information with departments at all production sites San Diego (USA), Jena & Halle (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands).
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in e.g. Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry, PhD preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in biologics/microbial protein production processes- Minimum 5 years commercial experience (Business development, sales or project management in Pharma or Biotech industry, preferentially in Custom Manufacturing).
  • Technical presentation experience to customers selling products in a highly technical environment
  • Proven record of successful project management and / or business development.
  • Strong gravitas and relationship building skills
  • Listening and empathy demonstrated
  • Demonstrates success at managing multiple opportunities and projects simultaneously
  • Experience in negotiating on price, costs, deliverables and specifications to customers
  • High service and customer orientation combined with entrepreneurial focus.
  • High motivation to drive business
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general computer literacy
  • Excellent presentation skills, also referring to technical contents
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills and organizational/time management skills
  • Strong ability to build long-term relationships
  • Shows reliability and timely responsiveness

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $140,000 - $170,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc . Wacker is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
