Job Summary:

The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, programming, and testing of custom automation equipment used to manufacture modular construction assemblies. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can move from concept to a fully operational, safety-certified machine, often building solutions for applications that have no industry precedent. The position combines electrical/controls design, robotics integration, and cross-functional collaboration with production, safety, and mechanical design teams.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


• Design machine control systems, including specification of electrical and control devices and production of wiring schematics

• Develop control strategies and define equipment operation in collaboration with mechanical, production, and project team members

• Program, commission, and test machines to reliably execute their intended process

• Design and program human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for use by machine operators

• Design machine safety systems that meet all applicable safety standards, and work with the Safety Manager to certify each system prior to release

• Troubleshoot and support equipment in a live production environment, minimizing downtime

• Maintain accurate documentation of control system designs, schematics, and program revisions

• Work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment and consistently follow safe work practices in support of a culture of continuous improvement

• Perform other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Required Skills and Proficiencies

• Rockwell ControlLogix

• Fanuc Robots

• Yaskawa drives and MP3300 PLCs

• Red Lion HMIs

• AutoCAD or DraftSight


Preferred Skills


• Familiarity with GE PLCs

• Familiarity with Keyence and Cognex vision systems

• Mechanical design experience

• Project management experience


Education and Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in machine building or production support within a manufacturing facility

• Four-year engineering degree preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered in place of a degree
