Job description

Driver Position

Position Summary: Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of the Driver position. The driver assures safe transportation driving Friendly Senior Living vehicles and provides assistance to meet needs of those using transportation services.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Drives Friendly Senior Living vehicles for outings as assigned.
  • Responsible for assuring that tie-down restraints are secured when wheelchairs are used.
  • Assists Members of The Friendly Home and residents of Linden Knoll with boarding and other tasks required during outings.
  • Provides wheelchair transport on outings when wheelchairs are utilized. Utilizes safety belt as an added safety precaution when using the mechanical lift.
  • May be required to drive a Friendly Senior Living vehicle for transport of staff or volunteers.
  • Informs Building Services/supervisor directly and immediately of mechanical concerns to assure safety.
  • Informs Life Enrichment Coordinator, Linden Knoll management, Director of Life Enrichment and/or Director of Life Enrichment at Cloverwood regarding specific Member or resident concerns.
  • Covers evening and weekend outings as scheduled.
  • Must be able to drive safely in a variety of weather conditions and handle traffic, parking and destination challenges in a calm and confident manner. Must report any traffic violations immediately to supervisor.
  • Complies with all procedures regarding sign-out of equipment, completion of vehicle inspection checklist.
  • Participates in in-service education and safety programs.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor or by Administration from time to time.
Other Job Functions:
  • Dependable, report to work on-time for every schedule shift (ready to work at beginning - start of shift) and work full schedule shifts unless physically unable or pre-approved Paid Time Off (PTO) which includes personal and vacation.
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required by the position and/or approved by management.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must be clean and neat in appearance and have a "friendly" service-oriented demeanor and supports Culture of Excellence initiatives by interactions with co-workers and/or Members.
  • Abide by work-related / job procedures and organization policies; (refer to the Employee Handbook).
Qualifications of the Position:
  • Education: HSD or its equivalent.
  • Experience: One (1) year driving experience.
  • Skills: Must have a safe driving record. Experience with driving large size vehicles preferred. Ability to communicate well and work with others.
  • Licenses / Certifications: Valid New York State driver's license with CDL with Passenger Endorsement.

  • Work is performed in a clean, well lit, "Home-Like," nursing home setting.
  • Employee must be able to perform essential job functions (reasonable accommodation may apply).
