Established in 1887, Pomona College is known for small classes, a challenging curriculum, close relationships between students and faculty, and a range of student research and leadership opportunities. Pomona is a member of The Claremont Colleges.

JOB PURPOSE: Building Managers are members of the Campus Center staff and a vital component in the operation of the Smith Campus Center. Managers are responsible for all operational aspects of the Campus Center during night and weekend hours in the absence of professional staff. The Smith Campus Center is a 55,500 square foot facility offering services to the students, faculty and staff of Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges. The center houses two restaurants (the Coop Fountain and Cafe), Coop Store, Asian American Resource Center, Quantitative Skills Center, Office of Student Development & Leadership, Offices of the Associated Students of Pomona College, a 200-seat theater, Doms Lounge, Edmunds Ballroom and numerous other meeting rooms and reservable spaces. Building Managers will report to the Assistant Director of the Campus Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, Smith Campus Center Student Programs, the Building Manager performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:

1. Act as primary facilities manager and monitor all activities, reservations, and programs during the designated hours of operation.
2. Lock and unlock rooms in the facility as scheduled
3. Clear and secure the facility at closing, open and close facility on weekends.
4. Report any problems or concerns with the operation of the facility to the Assistant Director.
5. At all times ensure the security of the facility and the safety of its occupants.
6. Work effectively with students, faculty and staff to ensure customer satisfaction.
7. Notify Housekeeping and Maintenance staff of special needs to maintain the consistent quality of the Campus Center.
8. In the absence of professional staff, supervise Coop Store Student Managers to ensure proper operation of all facilities.
9. Enforce Pomona College and Campus Center policies.
10. Meet with the Assistant Director of the Campus Center regularly.
11. Complete other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Licenses/Certificates: Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Experience: Successful applicants will be honest and dependable with a strong work ethic. Proven customer service skills, the ability to work within a diverse community, familiarity with Higher Education, and a desire to work closely with students are required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, unassisted and pass a functional capacity test. Must be able to work independently, with little direct supervision.

REQUIRED HOURS: A part time position, Managers are responsible for the operations of the Smith Campus Center from 5:00 pm to 1:00 am Monday through Thursday, 5:00 pm to 2:00 am Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 am on Saturday, and 10:00 am to 1:00 am on Sunday, in eight hour (or shorter) shifts. Building Managers will average 20 hours per week during the academic year.

ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position. The hourly rate for this role is $18.00 per hour. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
