HVAC System Design Engineer

Direct Hire | Blaine, MN | $90,000 - $120,000+ DOE

We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems Engineer to lead the design, specification, and implementation of HVAC control systems for commercial and industrial facilities. This position is ideal for a technical leader who enjoys designing complete BAS solutions, selecting field devices, supporting project execution, and working directly with customers and field teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer complete BAS solutions for commercial and industrial HVAC systems.
  • Develop control sequences, points lists, network architecture, submittals, and as-built documentation.
  • Specify HVAC control components, including:
    • Chillers
    • Boilers
    • Air Handling Units (AHUs)
    • Rooftop Units (RTUs)
    • VAV Systems
    • Actuators
    • Dampers
    • Sensors
    • VFDs
    • Control Valves
  • Review mechanical plans, specifications, and sequences of operation.
  • Design BACnet-based building automation networks and control architectures.
  • Support programming, startup, commissioning, and system optimization activities.
  • Troubleshoot controls, HVAC equipment, instrumentation, and communication networks.
  • Work directly with owners, contractors, consulting engineers, and field personnel.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to programmers, technicians, and junior engineers.
  • Support project meetings, scheduling, and technical problem resolution.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Building Automation, HVAC Controls, or BAS Engineering experience.
  • Experience specifying and integrating HVAC equipment and field devices.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Chilled water systems
    • Hot water systems
    • Airside controls
    • VAV applications
    • Energy management systems
    • BACnet communications
    • IP networking
    • VFD integration
  • Experience developing control sequences and reviewing mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium, Schneider, Automated Logic, Alerton, Distech, or similar BAS platforms.
  • Ability to independently design and support complex BAS projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
