How much do build engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 30, 2026, the average yearly pay for build engineer in Arizona is $90,231.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $61,500.00 and $111,800.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Build Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Build Engineer, a solid understanding of software development processes, source code management, and automation scripting (often with languages like Python or Bash) is essential, typically supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines, as well as experience with build systems like Maven or Gradle, is commonly required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication make someone stand out in this position. These skills ensure reliable and efficient build processes, enabling faster development cycles and more robust software delivery.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as software, hardware, or systems engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership roles. High compensation often includes bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing, particularly in technology companies or industries with high demand for technical expertise.

What does a build engineer do?

A build engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated build and deployment systems to ensure software is compiled, tested, and delivered efficiently. They work with tools like Jenkins, Maven, or Gradle and often collaborate with development teams to streamline the release process and improve software quality.

Is 40 too late to be an engineer?

Build engineers and other engineering roles do not have an age limit, and many professionals start or transition into engineering careers later in life. Success depends on skills, experience, and continuous learning, such as gaining certifications or mastering relevant tools, regardless of age.

What are Build Engineers?

Build Engineers are IT professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the processes that automate the building, testing, and deployment of software applications. They work closely with development and operations teams to ensure that code is efficiently compiled and integrated, often using tools like Jenkins, Maven, or Gradle. Their role is critical in maintaining continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, which helps teams deliver reliable software faster and with fewer errors.

What is the difference between Build Engineer vs DevOps Engineer?

AspectBuild EngineerDevOps Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires a degree in Computer Science or related field, with knowledge of scripting and build toolsOften has similar credentials, plus experience with automation, cloud platforms, and CI/CD pipelines
Work EnvironmentFocuses on software build processes within development teamsWorks across development and operations teams to improve deployment and infrastructure
Industry UsageCommon in software development companies, especially in roles focused on build automationUsed broadly in organizations adopting DevOps practices for continuous integration and delivery

While both roles require knowledge of scripting and build tools, Build Engineers primarily focus on automating and managing build processes. DevOps Engineers have a broader scope, integrating development and operations to streamline deployment and infrastructure management.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior build engineers, especially those with extensive experience, expertise in automation tools like Jenkins or Docker, and strong knowledge of software development and deployment processes, can earn $300,000 or more annually. High compensation is often associated with roles in large companies, specialized skills, or leadership positions in engineering teams.

What Is a Build Engineer?

A build engineer, sometimes called a build and release engineer or release engineer, is a computer software engineer who is focused mainly on developing a line from a program’s source code to a publically available product. In the development of modern computer applications, code is rarely written from scratch. Instead, build or DevOps engineers find open source code and facilitate the integration of different sources into a workable piece of software. They do this by using code to connect the various sources together.

How does a Build Engineer typically collaborate with development and QA teams during the software release process?

Build Engineers play a central role in bridging the gap between development and QA teams. They are responsible for setting up and maintaining continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring that builds are stable and ready for testing. Build Engineers often coordinate with developers to troubleshoot integration issues and with QA teams to verify that releases meet quality standards. This collaboration helps streamline the release process, reduce deployment errors, and ensure that software is delivered efficiently and reliably.

Job description

Sailors in the Navy’s Construction Battalion are makers. They’re driven to work with their hands, and they know the value of doing a job right the first time. They’re tougher than any task and they’re not afraid to get a little dirty. If this sounds like you, then you just might be a builder. As part of the Construction Battalion, better known as the Seabees, you’ll be part of a team that crafts the Navy’s infrastructure from the ground up and paves the way—literally—to victory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Builders make up the largest portion of the Seabees. They construct and repair Navy and Marine Corps facilities wherever needed. As a member of this team, you’ll gain training for work in a range of trades, such as carpentry, plaster, roofing, concrete, masonry, brickwork, painting, cabinetry and more. Specifically, builders may be called upon to:

  • Assist engineers with construction plans
  • Interpret blueprints and prepare sketches for projects
  • Build and repair wood, concrete and steel structures on land and waterfronts, including wharves and bridges
  • Install finish work including drywall, paneling, tilework, millwork and trim
  • Mix, place and finish concrete and operate concrete equipment
  • Make estimates for project materials, equipment and labor
  • Operate repair shops for Builder tools and equipment
  • Execute disaster preparedness and recovery operations
  • Support combat operations

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • As a builder, you’ll construct and repair a variety of structures in just about every environment imaginable. You may work at Navy bases or ports of call around the globe, and you may be deployed to help develop or rebuild areas affected by natural disasters or support combat operations. Seabees primarily serve at shore-based commands—you will likely not spend time at sea.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. citizen or equivalent
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 17 years of age or older

PAY AND BENEFITS

From the day you start, you’ll receive:

  • Competitive salary
  • Potential to earn a bonus upon enlistment
  • Free health insurance
  • Free housing
  • A retirement plan
  • Paid training

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

  • Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance
  • Post-9/11 GI Bill, up to 100% tuition
  • Professional credentials and certifications
  • College credit hours toward a bachelor’s or associate degree through the American Council on Education

PART-TIME OPPORTUNITIES

  • Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Builders in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
  • For annual training, you may serve anywhere in the world, including locations in the U.S., at bases overseas, or in areas where humanitarian needs are great.
