Job description

YD Broward - Security Specialist, LEAP

The YMCA of South Florida is looking for an experienced Security Specialist to join our Broward Youth Development Team. The Security Specialist is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of actively participating students and staff during the program operation, assisting with student transitions and coordinating the dismissal and transportation for the students' transition home.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrolling of school interior and grounds during regular school hours or special assignments.
  • Responds to and/or supervises calls for service which may include burglary, criminal mischief, and minor investigations, disturbances or disorders on school district sites, truancy, etc.
  • Prepare required records and or offense reports and patrols on foot or by vehicle to ensure protection and security personnel, and school district-owned equipment, buildings, and or property.
  • Enforces school or site traffic and parking regulations and may perform routine personnel accident investigations.
  • Assist local law enforcement agencies as required or requested.
  • Coordinates with appropriate educational staff, custodial staff, and operating engineer staff on security and safety requirements and procedures (e.g. science lab safety, trade/industry shops, storage, and exterior security lighting).
  • Ensure visitor control procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Ensure compliance with life safety requirements.
  • Promptly report loss due to theft or vandalism to risk management through the established procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security procedures for all modular classroom, office and storage structures.
  • Report all incidents and accidents within 24 hours to the corporate office.
  • Adhere to the Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements which mandate by law all child care personnel to report suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The YMCA requires employees to follow the internal reporting procedures with the assistance of the Program Managers.

Job Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or vocational school training
  • School Board Trained as security personnel and a minimum of 1 year experience working with adolescent youth or at least one (1) year experience in armed security or sworn law enforcement assignment.
  • Ability to remain calm during crisis situation.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • SBBC security training certification or letter of referral/recommendation from school principal
  • First Aid and CPR Certification

As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprint background screening.
