Job description

Job Summary:
Supports the Radio Reading Services by supervising on-air and production operations ensuring uninterrupted and high-quality broadcast services. Produces and schedules audio content for broadcast and online platforms, ensuring professional sound quality and accurate placement in playlists and podcast platforms.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Supervises broadcast and production operations for the Radio Reading Services on weekends, holidays, weekdays as needed and other times as needed to cover absences of the Broadcast Supervisor to ensure effective broadcast service provision.
  • Produces, engineers and edits programs for airplay and online ensuring professional sound quality. Programs may include PSAs, Promos, reading of print material and reading of agency documents. Must be able to accurately place audio content in broadcast playlists and podcast hosting site.
  • Assists with supervision, training and evaluation of broadcast volunteers and interns. Effectively provides accurate explanation of reader and board operation techniques and procedures to volunteers.
  • Ensures proper use and maintenance of station equipment.
  • Performs other tasks and duties to assist Broadcast Supervisor as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Associate degree in related field preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience operating a soundboard, recording software, and other studio broadcasting equipment.
  • Experience with Adobe Audition, Podcasting hosting sites, and Amazon Echo skill building preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic computer usage, iPads, and smart phones as well as proficiency with basic computer functions, including word processing, spreadsheet programs, email programs and navigating Windows 10 and 11.
  • Knowledge of online storage facilities such as Google Drive and Dropbox as well as file up/downloading services such as WeTransfer and Mail Drop.
  • Knowledge of online library services such as Flipster and Libby.
  • Strong knowledge of radio broadcast principles, techniques, and best practices.
  • Experience in radio production and volunteer supervision or other supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Excellent oral communication and strong interpersonal skills for interacting with volunteer readers, guests, and others in the community.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to provide primary broadcast coverage during weekends, holidays and weekdays as needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic computer, tablet, or smart phone concerns.
  • Excellent oral communication and strong interpersonal skills for interacting with volunteer readers, guests, and others in the community.
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
