Job description

Key Responsibilities:
Choice One Engineering is a Level 1 classified firm that focuses on smaller, local bridge projects that make an everyday difference in the community. The following are types of bridges our Bridge Design Engineers design:
  1. Prestressed Box Beam Bridges on capped pile substructures
  2. Single span concrete slab bridges on capped pile substructures
  3. Continuous slab bridges on capped pile substructures
  4. Concrete deck overlay projects
  5. Minor rehabilitation work involving concrete patching, deck joint rehabilitation, parapet safety regrading, or other structural repairs not requiring design computations

A Bridge Design Engineer is also responsible for the planning and design of bikeway/pedestrian bridges, low flow stream crossings, and drainage conduits (culvert pipes and three-sided/four-sided box culverts).
Additional responsibilities include conducting bridge hydraulic and scour analysis, structure type studies, FEMA floodplain analysis and permitting, Army Corps of Engineers permitting, utility coordination, and reviewing contractor material submittals.
This person will work closely with other technical staff at Choice One Engineering to assist in providing consulting engineering services to private clients, architects, national retailers, municipalities, universities, and local development clients. Interact daily with project teams in a multi-disciplinary and multi-office environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Must have an EIT certification and be in the process of obtaining or already possess a P.E. license.
  • Candidates should have 0-5 year(s) experience in bridge design.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ohio Department of Transportation's Bridge Design Manual, Location and Design (L&D) Manual, Construction and Material Specifications, and Standard Construction Drawings is a benefit, but not required.
  • Must possess traits of a very responsive person with a strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines.
  • Candidates should possess a continuous learning mindset.
  • Must have the ability to interact with the public, clients, and reviewing agencies in a courteous manner.
  • Working proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
