Job description

Job Summary:
The Bridge Superintendent is responsible for the field oversight, coordination, and execution of all phases of bridge construction projects, from planning and mobilization through completion. This leadership role ensures that the project is built safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day field operations of bridge construction projects including setting up, monitoring, and adjusting construction activities.
  • Supervise foremen, crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators to ensure efficient and effective work execution.
  • Interpret and implement design plans, construction drawings, and specifications for bridges and related structures (piers, abutments, deck, bearings, etc.).
  • Coordinate scheduling and sequencing of all bridge work activities, including concrete pours, steel erection, and falsework/shoring installations.
  • Enforce job site safety practices and compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
  • Lead daily pre-task and safety meetings with foremen and field crews.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, inspectors, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Review and track productivity, costs, and material usage; submit daily logs and reports.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, resolve field conflicts, and make real-time decisions to maintain project momentum.
  • Manage equipment logistics, site access, environmental controls, and traffic control coordination.
  • Ensure quality control standards and inspection requirements are met throughout each phase.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of heavy civil or bridge construction experience, including 3+ years in a superintendent or supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of bridge construction methods including cast-in-place concrete, steel erection, formwork systems, falsework, and pile driving.
  • Strong understanding of DOT standards (state and federal), AASHTO specifications, and bridge codes.
  • Proven ability to manage crews, multiple subcontractors, and complex field operations at multiple locations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Competency with construction software and technology a plus.

Certifications & Requirements:
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and travel as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in outdoor construction environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of walking, climbing, standing, and lifting on an active job site.
  • Must be able to navigate uneven terrain, scaffolding, and bridge structures under construction.
