Job description

Program Assistant for Breakthrough Manchester College-Bound at SNHU

The Program Assistant for Breakthrough Manchester College-Bound at SNHU is tasked with supporting and engaging the community of a four-year, tuition-free college access program for highly motivated, low opportunity students in the Manchester School District, featuring skill-building workshops, dedicated advising, and college research and planning support. Run out of The Chandler Center, this program serves not only Manchester School District high school students, but also undergraduate students interested in gaining real-world experience in skills such as lesson plan creation, mentorship, college advising, and teaching. Currently, the program supports 120 high school students and 20 advisors (undergraduates or recent graduates).

This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week including working 1 Saturday per month (on campus) from roughly 9:30am-3:30pm. Hours are flexible and most work can be completed remotely. The main office and location is SNHU, 2500 North River Road, Manchester, NH.

Overview of duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate optional regular community-engaging and academically-focused activities for high school students such as craft nights, game nights, study halls, college info sessions, etc.
  • Communicate with and engage a growing community of students, advisors, and alums
  • Provide logistical support, such as resource management, for the Director on CB Saturdays and other major Breakthrough Manchester events
  • Collaborate consistently with the Director, as well as relevant community members, in order to best support students and advisors
  • Encourage, develop, and sustain student-led initiatives such as yearbook, peer-tutoring, and class office
  • Supervise advisors and scholars for community events, student-led initiatives, and other programming opportunities

Minimum qualifications:

  • Major in Education or a related field
  • Specialized knowledge: Understanding the college application process and the challenges facing first-generation and underrepresented students.
  • Skills: Must be able to work and collaborate well with high school and college students and professionals in both Secondary and Higher Education Institutions.
  • Abilities: Must have superior communication and collaboration skills. This includes not only successfully utilizing digital mediums and platforms to support a community of high school and college students, but also the ability to lead in-person workshops and community events for those same populations.
  • Other characteristics, such as personal characteristics: An engaging personality, self-motivation, and self-direction are essential. In addition, the individual must be detail-oriented and adept at planning and managing events. Innovation and creativity are also a necessary characteristic of a successful program assistant.

Compensation:

  • This is a paid position of $13.75/hr
  • Program assistant is responsible for tracking, logging, and submitting their time

The hourly pay range for this position is $13.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
