Their main duties often include ensuring the timely delivery of bread, maintaining product quality during transport, and assisting with restocking. Bread Runners play a key role in keeping service smooth and efficient, particularly during busy meal times. This position may also involve light cleaning, organizing storage areas, and communicating with kitchen or front-of-house staff to ensure optimal workflow.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a bread runner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bread Runner, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and physical stamina, with prior experience in food service or hospitality often preferred. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, order management tools, and safe food handling practices is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management are essential soft skills for ensuring smooth coordination between kitchen staff and front-of-house. These skills ensure timely and accurate delivery of bread and baked goods, contributing to efficient service and customer satisfaction.

What are the main challenges a bread runner faces during busy service hours in a bakery or restaurant?

Bread Runners often work in fast-paced environments, especially during peak meal times, where timely and accurate delivery of bread to various stations or tables is essential. Job description

Rosemont Market & Bakery

Bread Baker

Rosemont's Bread Bakers are the hands behind our daily bread - mixing, shaping, and baking the seasonal loaves and baked goods our neighbors count on. Working out of our central kitchen, you'll help set the standard for Rosemont's bread program while pitching in on everything else that keeps a bakery running: handling ready-to-eat foods safely, filling orders for our markets, and keeping the workspace clean and organized.

What You'll Do

  • Bake efficiently and consistently for high-volume, daily production.
  • Portion, package, and label every item to Rosemont's standards.
  • Keep your station, equipment, and workspace clean and well-maintained.
  • Follow Maine Department of Health and Department of Agriculture rules for hygiene, sanitation, and safe food handling.
  • Help track and organize bakery ingredients, product, and supplies - and flag any shortages to your manager right away.
  • Pick and pack orders for our markets and stage them for delivery.
  • Contribute ideas to seasonal recipe testing and development, rooted in local, sustainable ingredients.
  • Keep your manager and team in the loop on production needs, changes, and wins - and flag urgent maintenance issues to your manager, the Facilities Maintenance Engineer, or the Director of Operations.
  • Follow the policies in the Employee Handbook, and pitch in on other tasks as needed.

What You Bring

  • A love of bread, local food systems, and baking - and curiosity about where it's all headed.
  • Strong baking technique and hands-on culinary skill.
  • A team-first attitude and a commitment to a safe, respectful, inclusive workplace.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to juggle a few things at once.
  • English language proficiency.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree a plus.
  • Bakery or culinary experience preferred; professional bread-baking experience a strong plus.

Good to Know

  • This is an in-person role based at Rosemont's headquarters, which is not open to the public.
  • Hours and shift schedule are set together with your department manager.
  • The production and warehouse areas can be loud - expect moderate to loud noise levels throughout a shift.
  • You may be asked to attend trainings or earn certifications.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift 50 lb. cartons or bags.
  • Able to bend, twist, squat, and reach throughout a shift.
  • Able to stand for the full duration of a shift.

Rosemont is committed to making this role accessible. If you need a reasonable accommodation to perform the essential functions of this job, let us know.
