Bot Developer information

What is a bot developer?

A Bot Developer is a software engineer who designs, builds, and maintains automated programs (bots) that perform tasks such as customer support, data retrieval, and process automation. They use programming languages like Python, JavaScript, or Node.js and frameworks like Rasa or Microsoft Bot Framework. Their responsibilities include developing conversational AI, integrating APIs, and ensuring bot functionality and performance. Bot Developers work across industries, improving user experiences and streamlining business processes through automation.

How much do bot developers make?

Bot developers typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the bots they create. Skilled developers with knowledge of programming languages like Python or JavaScript and experience with AI or automation tools tend to earn higher salaries.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a bot developer?

To thrive as a Bot Developer, you need strong programming skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript) and a solid understanding of AI, natural language processing, and automation workflows, often backed by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with bot frameworks (such as Microsoft Bot Framework, Dialogflow, or Rasa), version control systems, and cloud platforms is typically essential, and certifications in relevant technologies can be advantageous. Effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills help Bot Developers engage with stakeholders, collaborate efficiently, and address user needs. These skills and qualities are vital for building reliable, user-friendly bots that meet business objectives and adapt to evolving requirements.

What does a bot developer do?

Bot Developers spend their days designing, coding, and testing conversational bots to automate tasks and enhance user experiences across messaging platforms or websites. Common responsibilities include integrating bots with back-end systems, training natural language models, debugging issues, and updating functionalities based on user feedback. Collaboration with UX designers, product managers, and other developers is frequent to ensure seamless bot interactions and achieve project goals. Staying current with emerging trends in AI and automation is also an ongoing part of the role, enabling Bot Developers to create innovative solutions.

Job Description

Rails process and deployment automation

This resource will work closely with our internal engineers to refine our development process and build automation that will allow us to meet the following goals.

  • Support arbitrary deployment of individual features. Every git branch should be deployable to production, merged to Master after successful deployment, and the Master branch should always be a clean representation of what is running in production. The merge of a feature branch to Master, upon successful deployment, should be automated as well.
  • Every Pull Request submitted should be automatically deployed to a Test environment, where it can be validated autonomously from any other feature branches.
  • Deployment of a feature branch to a Staging environment should be triggered by a command mechanism, such as a messenger bot (hubot, slackbot, etc). Deployment should include a command driven rollback option, in the event a deployment introduces issues.
  • Deployment of current staging application version to the Production environment should be triggered by a command mechanism, such as a messenger bot (hubot, slackbot, etc). Deployment should include a command driven rollback option, in the event a deployment introduces issues.

Upon completion of automation work, this resource will switch over to doing feature work with the Online Store development team for the duration of the contract.
