Summary:

A journeyman level Boilermaker has a minimum of 4 years heavy industrial experience in all aspects of safe boiler and boiler component assembly and maintenance including welding, fabrication, and stress relieving. A boilermaker is also knowledgeable in oxyfuel cutting, identifying and installing valves, gaskets, hangers and supports, rigging, and able to read boiler drawings and detail sheets.

Essential Duties:

  • Boiler making Tools – use hand, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools in a safe manner.
  • Oxyfuel Cutting – safely perform the following oxyfuel cutting tasks: straight line and square shapes, piercing and slot cutting, bevels, and washing.
  • Identifying and Installing Valves – correctly identify purpose of valves, including those that start and stop and regulate flow, relieve pressure and regulate direction. Be able to interpret valve markings and nameplate information.
  • Identifying and Installing Gaskets – correctly identify and explain gasket types, materials and competently lay out and cut gaskets.
  • Hangers and supports – correctly identify types of hangers and supports. Identify and interpret drawings and symbols and accurately determine placement of hangers. Competently identify, explain, install and maintain variable and constant spring can supports.
  • Socket Weld Pipe Fabrication – correctly identify fittings and read/interpret socket weld pipe drawings. Correctly determine pipe lengths between socket weld fittings and supports.
  • Butt Weld Pipe Fabrication- correctly identify butt weld piping materials and fittings and read/interpret butt welded piping drawings. Correctly determine pipe lengths between fittings and supports.
  • Advanced Tube Work – Proficient in the methodology for identifying problem tubes, extracting, rolling and plugging tubes.
  • Communicates and works cooperatively and effectively with all personnel, good math skills for calculating load requirements.
  • Understand and complete pre-lift checklists and assist operator with lift plans as needed.
  • Must be proficient in the use of hand signals.

Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years minimum heavy industrial field experience as a Boilermaker
  • Must have locking toolbox and tools necessary to perform the job.
  • Rigging – Safely and competently identify and use, basic and special rigging procedures and equipment including chain hoists, come-a longs, jacks, and tuggers. Must be proficient in the use of hand signals.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements.

Physical/Site Requirements:

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Work at heights with fall protection, work from manlifts, baskets, JLG’s etc.
  • PPE footwear/prescription safety glasses or eye shields required.
