Blue Ocean Mariculture was founded in 2009 to pursue the sustainable farming of local Hawaiian marine finfish. We are proud to be the only open ocean mariculture farm in the United States. With first-hand experience in commercial capture fisheries and understand that some farming of the oceans is necessary and inevitable.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced marine mechanic to join our team.The Blue Ocean Mechanic will have primary responsibilities of maintaining the companys machinery. This position will include working independently on small tasks and with outside vendors on larger scale maintenance projects. This position requires a trouble shooter with good mechanical and electrical background that can handle and maintain a variety of machines in good working order. This position also requires a flexible schedule that allows for some early mornings and late afternoon work to ensure our fleet is operational and receives scheduled preventative maintenance.


What We'll Ask of You

  • Follow and promote all safety protocols.
  • Morning meeting with crew to list and prioritize maintenance needs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on all Blue Ocean Mariculture vehicles, motors, compressors, hydraulic systems, pumps, and plumbing.
  • Assist Lead Hands to repair any mechanical or electrical failures on the vessels.
  • Manage lubricants/fluids/filter inventory.
  • Maintain oily waste/oily rags and schedule for disposal.
  • Help to execute the maintenance needs for all Blue Ocean Mariculture machinery.
  • Assist with unloading and inventory of containers in the yard.
  • Assist in maintaining and managing an active inventory of onshore and offshore tools and replacement parts.
  • Other duties as assigned and needed for the Offshore team.


What You'll Bring

  • Working knowledge of diesel, gas, and electric motors.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance and preventative maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Working Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
  • Able to operate heavy machinery including forklifts, cranes, telehandlers, and large vehicles.
  • Strong organization skills and a working knowledge of excel and word applications.
  • Valid drivers license (CDL not required)
  • Clean driving abstract
  • Able to pass drug screening
  • Able to pass forklift/telehandler, rigger, and crane certification
  • Able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work weekends
