About the Role
Blue Ocean Mariculture is looking for a Lead Facilities Technician (LFT). This position will support Processing operations under the supervision of the Processing Manager by safely and successfully maintaining and repairing Processing facilities, equipment, and vehicles. The LFT is responsible for general Processing facility grounds cleanliness and organization. LFT's are professional, organized, self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, and lead by example. It is the LFT's responsibility to ensure that all operating tasks are completed in a manner consistent with company policies, procedures, and expectations.
Duties, Responsibilities, & Requisites
Production & Projects
  • Lead installation and operation of monitoring and control systems, filtration, pumping, processing machinery, plumbing and other electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect equipment regularly for malfunctions, including visual inspections, listening for irregular noises, and conducting scheduled testing as appropriate. Diagnosing and repairing equipment where needed.
  • Maintain a practical understanding of departmental operations and ensure open communication with the Director and Manager of Processing.
  • Manage the maintenance and upkeep of all onsite vehicles including refrigerated vans and forklifts.
  • Develop, maintain, and follow a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing vehicles (including forklifts), machinery, and equipment.
  • Oversee and maintain optimal inventory levels for tools, spare parts, and related items ensuring proper purchasing protocol is followed.
  • Understand department budgetary requirements and how operations and equipment functionality contributes to the success for the department and identify where improvements can be made to impact these metrics positively.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the workshop and around critical machinery areas.
  • Conduct or coordinate outsourced fabrication needs for Processing to include but not limited to fabrication of containment, cooling systems, warehousing systems, temperature monitoring systems and a variety of other specialized systems.
  • Participates in the on-call response team occasionally requiring working non-standard hours on short notice.

  • Maintain and comply with Company policies and procedures, including safety and biosecurity protocols.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a high performing team, conduct training, and assistance with conflict resolution. Develop SOPs as needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety, integrity, cohesion, and excellence.
  • Perform any duties assigned by the Processing Manager necessary to operate the department and maintain a safe working environment.

What You'll Bring
  • Three years or more of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Three years of forklift driving experience is preferred.
  • Capable of leading small teams to achieve project-specific goals.
  • Strong working knowledge of plumbing systems (including septic), electrical systems, electro-mechanical equipment, photovoltaic systems and batteries, monitoring and control systems, as well as a variety of vehicle types.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard construction and maintenance tools including hand tools, shop tools and fish processing-specialized tools.
  • Be self-motivated and independent worker with strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including ability to multi-task and manage paperwork.
  • Strong computer skills, including all MS Office applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understand and comply with workplace safety standards.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have a clear drivers abstract, must be capable of being on company vehicle insurance
  • Able to work atypical schedule, including Saturdays, Sundays & holidays
  • Be able to consistently lift 50 lbs., frequently climb 4+ feet, & work in a variety of environments, including sunny, hot, humid and cold (down to 33°F) environments.
