Job description

Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Technologist โ€“ Blood Bank

Location: Jamaica, NY

Duration: 13-Week Contract

Schedule: Evening Shift โ€“ 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM

Guaranteed Hours: 35 Hours Weekly

Compensation: $50 - $58 per Hour

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Technologist specializing in Blood Bank services to join a dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will perform specialized laboratory testing, blood compatibility procedures, and quality control activities while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and delivering accurate, timely results to support patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform blood bank testing procedures, including blood typing, antibody screening, crossmatching, and compatibility testing.
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory results accurately and efficiently.
  • Process, prepare, and maintain blood products according to established protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, quality assurance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Perform quality control and quality improvement activities to ensure testing accuracy.
  • Document laboratory findings and maintain accurate patient and testing records.
  • Investigate and resolve testing discrepancies according to laboratory procedures.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care needs.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment while adhering to infection control and safety guidelines.
Required QualificationsEducation
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Clinical Laboratory Technology program required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (License 092) required.
  • Primary Source Verification of licensure required.
  • Current AHA BLS Certification required.
Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year of Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience in a Blood Bank setting required.
  • Previous blood bank experience required.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of blood banking principles, transfusion medicine, and compatibility testing.
  • Proficiency in laboratory instrumentation, quality control, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ability to accurately analyze, interpret, and document laboratory results.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
