Job DescriptionBiomedical Equipment Technician (BMET)

Location: Mike O'Callahan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis Air Force Base - Las Vegas, NVLabor Category: Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET)Schedule: Monday-FridayDuty Hours: 0730-1630

Position Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, calibration, and safety assurance of medical equipment used within a military medical treatment facility. This role ensures medical devices operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Joint Commission, and manufacturer standards to support patient care and clinical operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, test, maintain, calibrate, and repair biomedical and diagnostic medical equipment
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and complete repairs in a timely manner
  • Document maintenance, inspections, and repairs in applicable tracking systems
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, Joint Commission, OSHA, and facility safety standards
  • Coordinate with clinical staff regarding equipment operation, downtime, and user concerns
  • Assist with equipment inventory management, acceptance testing, and equipment lifecycle tracking
  • Provide technical guidance and user support related to medical equipment operation
  • Support emergency repairs and equipment issues as required
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent training in biomedical equipment technology, electronics, or related field preferred
  • Previous experience as a BMET or medical equipment technician preferred
  • Knowledge of biomedical equipment systems, electrical safety, and diagnostic technologies
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams
  • Proficiency with documentation and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a clinical environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain base access to Nellis Air Force Base
Work Environment

  • Exposure to medical equipment, mechanical systems, and electronics
  • Requires standing, walking, lifting equipment, and responding to urgent service needs
