Arthrex is actively searching for a Sr. Engineer I - Biomechanical Research Testing. This individual will be responsible for leading, conducting, and coordinating biomechanical research studies and product testing in a laboratory setting and report findings. The successful candidate will have experience as a testing engineer supporting a variety of products and prototypes, with the ability to adapt across multiple portfolios and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. They will serve as a mentor to junior engineers and be comfortable working in a cross-functional environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and perform biomechanical research studies to support product testing needs, including feasibility, product verification, regulatory submission, and post-market analysis.
  • Design and perform research to facilitate evaluation of new technologies and design concepts.
  • Participate in writing, preparation and submission process of scientific articles.
  • Perform mechanical testing studies by preparing test samples, data collection, record keeping, and statistical analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports and disseminate information to facilitate product related business decision making.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and regular calibrations on laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness.
  • Operate a variety of materials testing machines, gauges, and software to obtain requested testing results.
  • Maintain and update records of work performed to contribute to team and personal metrics.
  • Minimal travel and some flexibility of work hours may be required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must comply with all laboratory safety instructions and wear PPE as appropriate for various activities.

Knowledge:
All previous plus:
  • Proficient in statistical analyses
  • Proficient in the design of biomechanical testing methods and the operation of any needed testing equipment
  • Expert in musculoskeletal anatomy

Skills:
All previous plus:
  • Demonstrated critical thinking ability with regard to biomechanical testing methods and results
  • Expert knowledge of orthopedic medical devices
  • Understanding of orthopedic surgical techniques
  • Able to demonstrate and instruct others in dissections for the purpose of biomechanical sample preparations

Education / Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a biomechanical laboratory setting required and Bachelors degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • OR Minimum 4 years experience in a biomechanical laboratory and a Masters in a relevant field.
  • OR Minimum 3 years experience in a biomechanical laboratory and a PhD in a relevant field.
