Biofeedback and neurofeedback are related techniques that utilize real-time feedback to help individuals control physiological functions. Both require specialized certifications and are used in clinical and wellness settings, but they serve different therapeutic purposes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Biofeedback Therapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Biofeedback Therapist, you need a background in psychology, physiology, or a related health field, often with specialized training or certification in biofeedback. Familiarity with biofeedback devices, physiological monitoring systems, and relevant software is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to educate and motivate clients are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accurate data interpretation, effective therapy delivery, and strong patient engagement to achieve positive health outcomes.

What is biofeedback and how does it work?

Biofeedback is a therapeutic technique that teaches individuals to control physiological processes such as heart rate, muscle tension, and breathing. By using sensors that provide real-time information about these bodily functions, people can learn to make subtle changes to improve their health and performance. Biofeedback is often used to manage stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and certain medical conditions. It is generally considered safe and can be used alone or as part of a broader treatment plan. Trained biofeedback therapists guide patients through the process and help them interpret their progress.

What are some common challenges faced by biofeedback practitioners when working with clients, and how can these be addressed?

Biofeedback practitioners often encounter challenges such as client motivation, adherence to home practice, and varying rates of progress. Some clients may find it difficult to consistently follow through with biofeedback exercises outside of sessions, which can slow results. Practitioners address these challenges by setting clear expectations, providing personalized feedback, and fostering a collaborative environment that empowers clients to take an active role in their treatment. Open communication and regular progress reviews are essential for maintaining motivation and adjusting strategies as needed.

Job description

About Atria:

The Atria Health Institute is a membership-based primary and specialty health care practice with a focus on prevention and longevity. We bring together a multidisciplinary team of renowned physicians to provide proactive, preventive, and precision-based care for Atria members and their families. All care, including primary care, advanced screening and diagnostics, urgent care, specialty care, 24/7 home visits, and imaging is included in members' annual fee.

Our mission is to make healthspan and lifespan equal for all by translating science into medicine in real-time, all while bringing humanity back into health care. Delivering such robust, personalized, and preventive health care is complex and requires a team-wide dedication to excellence.

We successfully opened our flagship Institute in New York in 2022, expanded to South Florida in 2024, and will be bringing the Atria experience to the West Coast with the launch of our Los Angeles Institute in late spring 2026.

About this role:

This is an opportunity to support Dr. Amy Grinberg's practice focused on behavioral health, sleep medicine, headache management, and mind-body care. The RN in this role will act as a key extension of the clinical experience, supporting members between appointments through education, coaching, symptom tracking, and behavioral reinforcement.

This role is highly collaborative and member-facing. You will help members stay engaged with treatment plans, reinforce Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-based interventions, assist with biofeedback sessions, and ensure members feel supported throughout their care journey.

The ideal candidate is organized, communicative, observant, and comfortable working within structured behavioral protocols while still delivering a personalized member experience. You are proactive, detail-oriented, and skilled at building accountability and follow-through with members.

What you'll do:

  • Support members between CBT and behavioral health sessions through Spruce, email, and other communication channels
  • Send appointment reminders, sleep diary reminders, and weekly member check-in messages
  • Confirm completion of sleep diaries, headache logs, and other symptom tracking tools
  • Answer member questions related to sleep diaries, behavioral protocols, and care plans
  • Track Sleep Efficiency (SE) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) scores and communicate trends to the clinical team
  • Reinforce CBT principles related to insomnia, headache management, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle modification
  • Provide patient education around:
    • Sleep hygiene and stimulus control
    • Migraine and headache trigger management
    • Relaxation strategies including paced breathing and progressive muscle relaxation
  • Support member adherence to structured treatment plans and troubleshoot barriers to follow-through
  • Assist with biofeedback appointments by preparing equipment and supporting member setup
  • Prepare and monitor EMG, thermal, and HRV sensors during sessions
  • Coach members through relaxation and physiologic regulation exercises
  • Monitor physiologic signals, document progress, and escalate concerns as appropriate
  • Review sleep diaries, actigraphy data, headache logs, and symptom trends between visits
  • Summarize relevant findings and communicate updates to Dr. Amy Grinberg
  • Help maintain a seamless, organized, and high-touch member experience across all interactions
  • Collaborate closely with clinical and operational teams to support continuity of care

Compensation:

$100,000 - 200,000
