Job Summary:
Chemistry & Biochemistry Lab Assistants. Several lab positions are available.
Duties of each position are described below.
Principal Responsibilities
All lab assistants are expected to:
  • Assist faculty during lab hours
  • Follow program policies and procedures
  • Help enforce lab safety policies
  • Come to work as scheduled by supervisor
  • Maintain security of the lab and its contents
  • Other duties as assigned
Teaching Assistants:
  • Assist faculty with grading and course-related activities
  • Assist students enrolled in labs with questions, materials, and equipment
  • Circulate the lab and make sure students are working safely.
  • Assist with lab set-up and clean-up
Lab Preparations Assistants:
  • Prepare chemical solutions in advance, as needed, for the upcoming lab
  • Verify that equipment needed for each lab is set out and in working order
  • Notify appropriate faculty/staff if more lab supplies need to be ordered
  • Provide set-up and clean-up
Laboratory Stockroom Assistants:
  • Organize, restock, and maintain lab supplies
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs on an occasional basis
  • Update chemical inventory program
  • Reconcile physical inventories with computerized inventory program
  • Test and inspect lab safety equipment as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Good academic standing
  • Stockroom assistants must have taken at least one high school chemistry course and some college is preferred.
  • Potential candidates for teaching assistant or preparations assistant positions must have already successfully completed the college chemistry lab course they are applying for.
