Description
This position is internally referred to as PFS (Patient Financial Services) Billing Representative.
As part of the Patient Financial Services team, you will help protect the financial stability of the hospital by ensuring timely and accurate follow-up on insurance claims. The work performed helps reduce outstanding balances, resolve insurance-related issues, and support overall revenue cycle performance. This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a commitment to professionalism and patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up on outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement
- Contact insurance companies to verify claim status and resolve payment issues
- Review denied claims and identify root causes of denials
- Prepare and submit appeals with complete and accurate documentation
- Document all follow-up actions clearly within the billing system
- Collaborate with coding and billing teams to correct claim errors
- Monitor aging reports and prioritize high-value or time-sensitive accounts
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and payer guidelines
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the revenue cycle department
- Perform other duties as assigned within the Patient Financial Services team
Position Requirements
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Experience with insurance claims follow-up and denial management
- Working knowledge of insurance processes, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
- Ability to manage accounts receivable and interpret aging reports
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in hospital billing/collections or medical billing/collections
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
- Experience working with hospital billing systems and/or electronic health record platforms
- Deep knowledge of payer requirements and denial resolution strategies
