Job description

About Nexon

Nexon America is a branch of Nexon Co., Ltd., a global video game publisher and leading developer of online virtual worlds for PCs, consoles, and mobile devices. Nexon proudly offers celebrated franchises like MapleStory and Mabinogi that have been enjoyed by millions of players for over two decades. When we founded our Nexon America branch in 2006, we made it our goal to bring those unique games to western players using a player-first approach. We achieve that goal by applying our team’s outstanding free-to-play expertise and live game support to every decision, every day.

But we’re committed to more than our games! Here at Nexon America, we’re all about open communication, diversity, mutual respect, and collaboration, so we can bring out the best in each other. Nexies find support, friendship, and career growth all in one place! And because we know a healthy work-life balance is the key to happiness, Nexies also enjoy flexible hours, a hybrid work model, and extra perks like food trucks, happy hours, and team events. It’s why we’ve earned the Great Place to Work certification for 6 years running!

We’re looking to expand our team with passionate individuals who want to learn, play, and grow with us. Ready for a new challenge?

Summary of Position

This role serves as our team’s cultural compass. This isn't just about translation, it’s about transformation. You will bridge the gap between the team and the Chinese American community by identifying "micro-trends" on communities and platforms and translating those insights into actionable marketing strategies.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep, nuanced understanding of the Chinese American identity, values, and digital behaviors, ensuring the team resonates authentically with Chinese Americans.

We are currently working in the office 2-3x a week in a hybrid work model.

Job Responsibilities

  • Cultural Trend Spotting:
    • Monitor and analyze emerging trends within the Chinese American community across major US platforms and Chinese platforms such as RedNote, Bilibili, WeChat, and Weibo.
  • Strategic Insights:
    • Translate Chinese American cultural nuances into insights for the broader team to inform campaign creative and messaging.
    • Act as the "cultural lens" for marketing assets, ensuring visual language, slang, and references are accurate and tonally appropriate among Chinese Americans.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Track sentiment and conversations within local Chinese American digital hubs to identify opportunities or risk mitigation.
  • Marketing Support:
    • Support senior team members in maintaining marketing tracking metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools to help monitor campaign performance and key business KPIs.
Assist with organizing and updating marketing performance data, ensuring reports and dashboards remain accurate, timely, and easy for cross-functional teams to reference.
  • Competitive Analysis:
    • Report on how competitors (both domestic and international) are engaging with Chinese American consumers in the gaming, tech, and entertainment sectors.

Work Experience

  • 2+ preferred years of experience in community management, social media management, digital marketing, consumer insights, product marketing, or market research preferred.
  • Experience in navigating and utilizing Chinese social media ecosystems (e.g. RedNote, Bilibili, WeChat, and Weibo).
  • Experience in gaming, entertainment, technology, or digital media preferred

Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Data Analytics, Sociology, or a related field

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong communication skills
  • Native-level fluency in Chinese (reading and writing) and English
  • A demonstrated, sustained engagement with Chinese American communities, with a nuanced understanding of both "traditional" values and the "Gen Z/Millennial" diaspora experience/audience.
  • Ability to take cultural observations and turn them into structured, logical recommendations
  • A passion for and foundational knowledge of Gaming
  • Strong familiarity with MapleStory preferred

Management has the right to add or change duties and job requirements at any time.
