OverviewThe Staff Mechanical Engineer is an experienced technical leader responsible for driving the successful development of complex products, systems, and technologies across multiple projects and engineering teams. This role applies advanced engineering expertise and systems thinking to solve complex technical challenges, guide engineering decisions, and improve product and business outcomes.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Staff Engineer provides technical leadership through collaboration, mentoring, and influence. The role partners closely with engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, marketing, service, and external partners to ensure successful product development, risk management, and implementation of engineering best practices.
Depending on the assignment, the role may provide technical leadership in specialized disciplines such as fluid control systems, including pneumatic, electro-pneumatic, water delivery, vacuum, and electromechanical systems.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the development of complex products, systems, and technologies across multiple projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and influence technical decisions, engineering practices, and solutions across multiple projects.
  • Evaluate technical alternatives, risks, and tradeoffs to support sound engineering decisions.
  • Develop and validate designs through analysis, prototyping, testing, and problem solving.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver successful product outcomes.
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and technicians while promoting engineering best practices.
  • Support the development and adoption of engineering standards, tools, and processes.
  • Drive resolution of complex quality issues, large-scale cost-saving initiatives, and critical customer issues.
  • Contribute to innovation through technology exploration and development of new product solutions.
  • Serve as a technical resource within areas of expertise, including fluid control technologies as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and product development processes.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Proven technical leadership across multiple projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD, engineering documentation, and product lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience with engineering analysis, design verification, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Hands-on product development experience including prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and design refinement.
  • Ability to evaluate technical risks and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, influence, and mentoring skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, quality systems, and product validation practices.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering excellence.
  • Experience with fluid control technologies, including pneumatic, electro-pneumatic, vacuum, water delivery, or related systems preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Typically requires 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, product development, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience developing products within regulated, manufacturing-intensive, or customer-focused industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership across complex engineering projects and influencing technical direction beyond a single project or product.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert in one or more technical disciplines relevant to product development.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
