The Manager, Volunteer Services is responsible for the day to day operations of the Volunteer Department for their assigned hospital(s). The manager provides training to volunteers to assist in general tasks or to complete special projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruiting, interviewing, providing volunteer application clearance, orienting, providing unit and/or departmental assignments, maintaining compliance of records, and retaining volunteers and designated interns. The manager serves as a liaison with all departments, anticipating and fulfilling their requests for volunteers and ensures volunteer/intern compliance and recognition for their time. The manager ensures all volunteers are oriented in customer service skills and in compliance with HMH policies and procedures. Overall department responsibilities include database management, office management, as well as hospital compliance for staff and volunteers. The manager participates in all hospital initiatives and special projects as assigned. The manager promotes a positive experience and overall team member well-being and engagement.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Manager of Volunteer Services with Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Recruits, interviews, orients, provides appropriate clearance process, maintains compliance, provides assignments, and retains volunteers.
  • Conducts volunteer performance evaluations on an ongoing basis with department assigned.
  • Ensures annual required education compliance.
  • Coordinates and maintains annual recognition events.
  • Communicates and meets departmental requests for volunteers.
  • Expedites priority, special requests for volunteers.
  • Distributes, collects and processes all volunteer application/intern forms and required documents.
  • Establishes and maintains community and internal relationships.
  • Maintain volunteer records and runs reports, as needed via the volunteer record keeping platform.
  • Maintains volunteer budget and planning for expenses.
  • Collaborates with marketing and communications to inform the community of HMH volunteer programs.
  • Maintains Volunteer Meal Card budget and compliance.
  • Responsible for generating reports as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of volunteer uniforms and orders through external vendors as needed.
  • Supports the Patient and Family Advisory Council as needed.
  • Supports in the collaboration and development of internship and academic programs.
  • Manages all aspects of the High School Explorers Program for hospitals in their designated assignment.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Hackensack Meridian Health Organization Competencies.
  • Maintains inventory of volunteer uniform and order through external vendors as needed.
  • Leads and maintains Patient and Family Advisory Council
  • Supports Volunteer and Student Intern clearances at CDI and School of Medicine
  • Manages all aspects of the High School Explorer Program at Hackensack University Medical Center

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher.
  • 3-4 years experience in a customer-oriented position.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly resourceful and efficient with excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, problem-solving, and service recovery skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for problem solving and process improvement.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Google Platform.
  • Bilingual.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
  • Volunteer Certification through Beryl Institute or equivalent.

Starting Minimum Rate
Minimum rate of $73,153.60 Annually
