ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: We are currently searching for one Graduate Student Assistant to work in a research project sponsored by University Transportation Center (UTC), under the supervision of Dr. Yongping Zhang and Yangsong Gu, principal investigators.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
  • Assist with various research activities related to the project, including literature reviews, large-scale data processing, and analysis, mathematical and statistical modeling, and interpretation of results associated with travel behavior during California wildfire events.
  • Support the preparation of research manuscripts, technical reports, project deliverables and interim and final project reports.
  • Contribute to data management, visualization, and documentation to facilitate project objectives and dissemination of findings.
  • Participate in research meetings and collaborate with project team members to advance project tasks and milestones.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a graduate student
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required
  • Strong programming, statistical, and computational skills (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB)
  • Strong visualization skills (e.g. Python, ArcGIS)
  • A positive, pleasant attitude with good problem-solving skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience developing interactive dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or web-based visualization platforms.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing, analysis, and visualization
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments
  • Strong motivation and enthusiasm for conducting research
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
