Job description


Position Title:      Assistant, AAPS Before/After School Program
Location:              Multiple Locations Available
FTE:                      10.5 - 24.75 Hours / Week
Wage Scale:         $17.08 - 19.97/hour 
Reports to:           Community Education and Recreation (Rec & Ed) / Before/After School Program  Administrative Team











Summary
AAPS Community Education and Recreation's Extended Day Program offers safe, fun, and  enriching environments for students during the before and after school hours. Assistants work  as part of a team providing programming to Young 5 - 5th grade students in this AAPS licensed  before- and after-school care program. Responsibilities include interacting with students and  assisting the Site Supervisor in planning and implementing activities.




Schedule  

Morning shift hours are 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. Afternoon shift hours are 3:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.  Assistants work at least 4 shifts per week.


Education & Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Desire to work with 5-11 year old children  
  • Is flexible and tolerant, showing caring and respect for students. Within 3 months of hire, complete training in:
    • Child and adult CPR (certification)
    • Child and adult First Aid (certification)
    • Submit negative TB test results prior to the start of employment
  • Maintain compliance with all Michigan Bureau of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs  (LARA) licensing requirements including MIregistry.


Job Responsibilities

  • Report to work at scheduled time to assist the Site Supervisor in setting up the program  space.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor in planning and implementing the daily plan of activities
  • Greet and interact with each child, each session
  • Greet and interact with parents each day to relay information about their child's time in  the program
  • Assist in planning and implementing necessary procedures to ensure each child's  physical safety and comfort
  • Review emergency forms for each child and be aware of special circumstances including  health concerns, food allergy plans, custody issues, etc.
  • Assist in setting up the daily self-serve snack and assist children with snacks brought  from home.
  • Sanitize the tables before and after each use
  • At the end of each session, prepare the room(s) for the next group using the room. This  may include moving tables and chairs, sweeping, wiping down tables, etc.
  • Advise and provide feedback to the Site Supervisor and Administrative Team of  problems, needs, and adjustments regarding the children, as well as problems, needs  and adjustments requested for the site.
  • Respond to Administrative Team requests with relevant information in a timely manner
  • Attend and participate in weekly site planning meetings and district trainings
  • Submit time sheets weekly
  • Obtain and read the "Weekly Program Notes"
  • Provide coverage at additional sites as requested by the Administrative Team
  • Other duties as assigned 

This is a part-time position requiring regular and reliable attendance on site to successfully  perform the essential functions of this job.
