The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Bed Board Associate is responsible to place patients in the appropriate bed and to coordinate with clinical leadership in facilitation of continuous patient throughput from all points of entry and internal transfer.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Highschool diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Computer skills

Preferred:

  • One year experience

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem
  • Evening

Essential Functions:

  • Complete appropriate bed assignments based on patient’s sex, diagnosis, level of care, and clinical needs
  • Maximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of patient placement, ensuring the optimate usage of inpatient bed resources
  • Maintain accuracy of bed board system and complete daily reconciliation to ensure appropriate bed assignments and accurate accommodation types
  • Utilize bed tracking system to indicate the status of the bed, including the tracking of clean and unclean beds and isolation rooms
  • Escalate delays in cleaning services and/or bed status updates that impact bed use and assignment
  • Review all assigned patients to ensure timely movement of patients; escalate transport delays or cancellations
  • Facilitate communication related to Critical Care Admissions
  • Evaluate all bed blocks for continued need and unblock where possible
  • Secure completed transfer agreements prior to bed assignments for patients from outside hospitals
  • Maintain excellent communication with physicians, clinical teams, and environmental services to ensure timely patient placements, discharges, and address all issues delaying processes
  • Attend daily bed management huddles as applicable, provide status and escalate any issues
  • Take initiative within work responsibilities, providing feedback or suggesting improvements that can make a difference for quality, safety, or service excellence
  • Maintain high level of accuracy and quality in accordance to the departments established goals
  • Exceed productivity goals established for the position and department
  • Demonstrate competent decision-making skills without management interaction
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of patient information following HIPAA Guidelines
  • Demonstrate ability to work with others effectively both in and outside of the department
  • Willing to be flexible with unplanned assignments as required and applies principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations
  • Perform all job duties in a professional and courteous manner, demonstrating positive, appropriate interaction skills with all internal, external customers and co-workers
