The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

At RWJBarnabas Health, effective patient flow helps ensure patients receive the right care in the right setting at the right time. As a Bed Board Associate, you’ll play an important role in coordinating patient placement and managing hospital bed availability. Working closely with nursing units, physicians, the Transfer Center, and other hospital teams, you’ll help facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting a positive experience for patients, families, and colleagues.

In this role, you’ll be:

  • Coordinating patient room assignments based on physician service, diagnosis, bed availability, and established hospital guidelines.
  • Facilitating bed management processes and monitoring the hospital census to support efficient patient placement and flow.
  • Collaborating with nursing units, physicians, and other departments to coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Monitoring inpatient bed availability to help ensure appropriate resources are available for emergency, elective, and Transfer Center admissions.
  • Anticipating potential patient flow and throughput challenges and helping coordinate alternative solutions.
  • Managing and coordinating Transfer Center activities and supporting the transfer of patients into the hospital.
  • Maintaining precise documentation and accurately recording required patient and bed management information.
  • Following regulatory requirements and hospital policies, including HIPAA and EMTALA.
  • Participating in daily bed meetings with Nursing Directors to support patient placement and bed management plans.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, physician offices, nurses, and hospital team members.
  • Assisting with the orientation of new team members and serving as a resource for Bed Census and Transfer Center processes.

To Be Considered

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and previous clerical experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and diagnoses, along with computer proficiency, is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills and be able to work collaboratively with multiple departments in a changing healthcare environment. The ability to maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, physicians, physician offices, nursing staff, and fellow team members is essential.

The schedule for this role will be 2 days a week from 11pm to 7:30am and will require rotating weekends.
