Job description

Position Summary:
Conduct group exercise classes that improve the overall member participant fitness levels. Explain the
exercises in a clear and efficient way, while demonstrating how to do the exercises and use the training
equipment safely, to avoid injuries.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach aqua aerobic fitness classes, develop routines, exercises, and choreography to members and guests.
  • Explain exercises in detail and suggest alternatives if needed.
  • Explain the function of exercise movement, describe the muscles worked and offer exercise modification to guests and members with physical restrictions.
  • Monitor performance of guests and members during class to ensure their safety.
  • Follow and enforce safety regulations and other policies and procedures.
  • Document and report incidents.
  • Perform CPR and administer first aid in case of emergency.
  • Document and report incidents.
  • Promote the facilities and fitness programs to members and guests.
  • Record class attendance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the equipment.
  • Work with supervisor regarding program information, class changes, and member service issues.
  • Set-up and clean-up equipment where needed.
  • Inform clients about water safety and hygiene guidelines.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with members and guests.

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a
combination of the following supportive functions:

  • Regular attendance in conformance with our standards
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, team members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs including weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Research new exercise techniques and trends

Qualifications (relevant experience, education and training):

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate basic exercise physiology principles
  • Ability to positively motivate members/guests in fitness activities
  • Knowledge in aerobic/anaerobic and strength conditioning required
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Aqua Aerobics certification required
  • 1 year of Group Exercise Instruction required

Special Skills & Abilities/Mental and Physical Demands:

  • Frequently stands, bends, stoops, twist and turn for prolonged periods of time.
  • Works in both indoor and outdoor areas
  • Exposure to heat and cold
  • Works on slippery or uneven surfaces
  • Ability to see and hear distress signals of members and guests
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
