Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Schematic Project Manager (Surface Transportation) in Dallas, Texas to support and grow our Transportation Business Line. This role will serve as a key client facing leader, guiding the successful delivery of complex highway and roadway projects from the earliest schematic phases through final design. The ideal candidate brings deep schematic development expertise and a strong understanding of relevant regulatory processes, standards, and expectations. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, build trusted relationships with clients, and ensure high-quality, innovative solutions for surface transportation infrastructure across the region. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the planning, management, and delivery of surface transportation projects, with a primary focus on schematic development for highways and roadways. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engaging regularly to understand needs, manage expectations, and ensure satisfaction throughout project delivery. 
  • Direct multidisciplinary internal teams, including roadway, traffic, drainage, environmental, and structures, to deliver coordinated and technically sound design solutions. 
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, and quality, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and client requirements. 
  • Guide the development of schematic design alternatives, alignment studies, preliminary layouts, and corridor level analysis. 
  • Support production of technical documents, reports, presentations, and project deliverables. 
  • Identify and mitigate project risks while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and proactive problem-solving. 
  • Support business development activities, including client relationship management, proposal development, and pursuit strategy. 
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and 10+ years of relevant surface transportation project experience, including schematic development, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain within 6 months. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 20+ years of experience delivering schematicphase highway and roadway projects, ideally within TxDOT districts. 
  • Proven experience as a clientfacing project manager for transportation agencies. 
  • Strong background in developing roadway alternatives, schematic layouts, and preliminary design concepts. 
  • Demonstrated success managing large or complex transportation projects from concept through design.
