Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Pipeline Designer supports Strikeโ€™s Pipeline Engineering Services group by executing pipeline mapping and GIS design activities across a wide range of energy infrastructure projects. This role contributes to the development of detailed design packages for pipeline systems. Responsibilities include producing pipeline alignment sheets, HDD plan and profile drawings as well as pipeline related permit drawings. The Senior Pipeline Designer collaborates closely with engineers, third-party survey, project teams, construction personnel, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality, constructible pipeline design packages that support safe and efficient field execution.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Lead Pipeline mapping efforts on assigned projects and provide technical guidance to Designers.
  • Develop complete pipeline design packages including IFC alignment sheets including major and minor stationing, workspace layout details, Horizontal Directional Drill plan/profile drawings, road and railroad permit drawings and property parcel exhibits for ROW acquisition efforts.
  • Interpret and have the ability to import survey data to create topographic base files and generate 3D centerlines.
  • Assist engineers with creating bills of materials.
  • Read and understand parcel metes and bounds descriptions to accurately plot property boundaries to generate landowner exhibits and plot easements utilizing bearings and distances for integration into pipeline design deliverables.
  • Lead and perform drawing checks, quality reviews, and constructability assessments.
  • Incorporate vendor documentation, field data, redlines, and engineering markups into final design deliverables.
  • Provide technical support to project managers, engineers, and construction teams during project execution such as verifying HDD pilot hole alignment and profile.
  • Participate in site visits, field data collection, design verifications, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support schedule development, man-hour estimates, and project planning for pipeline design tasks
  • Have knowledge of railroad permit based on AREMA Standards as well as knowledge and understanding of requirements for State Highway Permits.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support project execution such as permit coordination and oversee third party-survey crews.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of pipeline mapping experience within midstream, oil & gas industry
  • Demonstrated experience of independently producing full pipeline design packages
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Strong experience reviewing, importing and interpreting survey data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Associateโ€™s degree in drafting/design preferred, but equivalent experience accepted.

Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with ArcGIS preferred but not required
  • ยทThorough understanding of pipeline design, routing and HDD plan/profile generation
  • Strong understanding of pipeline routing
  • Understanding of pipeline construction methods and the ability to analyze pipeline routing for optimal construction efficiency
  • Ability to independently identify design issues, propose solutions, and implement corrections.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior designers and contribute to team skill development.
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with engineering, field personnel, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a professional level.

Other Criteria:

  • Ability to work overtime as necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites for walkdowns, construction support, or commissioning assistance.
  • Ability to work out of town when required for project needs.
  • Must comply with Strike policies, including the Drug & Alcohol Policy.
  • Must perform all duties with a high regard for personal and team safety.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
