Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart is seeking a Head JV/Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 academic year to coach and manage the Basketball Program within the standards of Woodlands Academy, the ISL (Independent School League), and the IHSA. The Head JV/Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach will foster a positive and inclusive team atmosphere that values individual development, discipline, and sportsmanship while keeping all student-athletes' self-esteem and best interests first and foremost.


The Head JV/Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach will report to the Head Varsity Basketball Coach and Athletic Director.


Responsibilities include:

  • Engages as a Coach/Educator in a manner consistent with the values of the school community as articulated in the Goals & Criteria of Sacred Heart Education
  • Educate and coach Woodlands Academy student-athletes in the game of Basketball
  • Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship
  • Notifies team members of all Woodland’s Academy Athletic Program policies, procedures, and training rules as they pertain to the team
  • Plan and communicate to the Head Varsity Coach in all practice sessions and competition strategies that ensure the health and physical well-being of student-athletes
  • Plan practices and team meetings in conjunction with the Head Varsity Coach
  • Maintains, along with the head coach, the proper supervision of student-athletes at practices, games, in locker rooms, and on school-provided transportation
  • Coordinates the distribution, care, inventory, and collection of uniforms and equipment
  • Maintains individual and team records and statistics
  • Drive mini bus to and from contests (occasionally)
  • Implements programmatic instruction of sequential fundamentals and proper conditioning for all levels of the program

Requirements:

· Previous experience as either a Basketball player or coach is required

· Meets IHSA Criteria and completion of NFHS courses, preferred

· Must be available from the first allowable practice date as designated by the IHSA for all practices, games, and regional/state finals

· Successful completion of criminal and sexual offender registry background checks
